New flexible start times

Post by vamparicmale »

I know it a little late, but does anyone actually agree these later start times make it better for us and enable us to have better social life? I used to work as postie in Sheffield few years back and even with 40 min bus ride home on busiest day I was sat at home havin lunch for 12.30. now I'm lucky to be home before 1.30 (except on saturdays) and thats on shortest route closest to my house.

Back in the courier a few months ago a fellow colleague from my office wrote in asking about the new times saying it made his life worse, all RM could say was that the new start times were to make RM more flexable and modern in todays working world.

It seems to me that the big problem is not the start times but the finishing times.
Some posties want their cake and to eat it as well.
You're at home at 1.30,what is your finishing time.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

my normal finishing time is 2pm but like i said excluding saturdays, i get home after 1.30pm on light days and with 15 min bus route home. on heaviest day i'm lucky to be home before 3.15pm on closest walk to my house which can take 15/20min bus ride as i do 5 different rounds a week.

I would rather start early and finish early. The problem is we are at the mercy of the mail centre. We recently moved to earlier start times and this means quite often we are sat about waiting for lorries to arrive. So theres no point starting early if there is nothing there to get on with.

Get ready...cos this is just the start...with walk sequencing machines coming on line en masse in the new year (1 a month).
You will lucky to be finished by 4.00pm in some offices.

later starts are great for people who dont have young families or partners who work and dont have childcare.

Later starts have done one thing for me,i've lost weight, by the time i get in i have dinner and no time to bother for tea,we start at 6 and we should finish at 14.20 but with the lash up they have at the moment we have been getting back at 15.00 or 16.00 some later than that so much for the last letter by 14.00 on the towns.
