The "How was your day" thread.
Another good day 5 for 5 on bulbs - only 1 row of D2Ds left to do, although I have thrown in what the cover guy should do on Thursday, my day off
. Also not that bad a day as Wednesdays go - now waiting for me Bacon and Chicken Pasta and with a few beers later I am set for a relaxing day tomorrow.

Well I have only just got in! Yes near enough a 5HR delivery
The amount of large flats, huge catalogues and packets today was horrendous I cannot work out what’s happening? Isn’t mail on the decline according to RM? Totally madness the amount of post on, I should have cut off instead of breaking my balls for this company.
One day you finish an hour before you time the next you go over by 3 can it get any more random and extreme?

From kill offs to tea!
Tons of kill offs in the office, as there's loads of boarded-up properties, and I got two pink pouches back today both of which had kill offs in them along with the kill offs from two days ago
. Manager asked me and postie on neighbouring frame to give fifteen minutes to kill off mail that other posties had been unable to do in the district, which in my case equated to about a bundle. Posted first letter late as the driver decided to take us round and drop bags at the same time! On the walk, had one or two customers who engaged me in lengthy conversations
, so I chopped half an hour off my overtime. Was nice and sunny at first
, then went to that fine stuff
that wets you through then back to sunshine
. First letter 10.20; last letter 14.30. Overtime seems to be going down at last. Now sat watching Star Trek Voyager
and munching on Pringles and bananas
, with a nice cup 'a tea in tow! Lovely!

Sat in with a member for a stage 1 sick leave interview warning NOT issued!
Prepped delivery
Coloured in map to show new delivery routes
Dealt with pegasus queries
Tried to convince one of the drivers he wouldnt end up with the worst driving duty in the office which he currently does.
Pointed out he has 8 drivers below him on the seniority list so when re pick starts and finishes he will end up with a better duty.
Watched the TUC Congrss on telly whilst colouring in map and doing pegasus stuff, watched Tony Kearns speak. That man is good !!!!!!

Got my sh*t together today, and mananged to not be the last one out for the first time in a couple of weeks - pretty happy with that, especially as all my D2Ds were in the frame ( it always slows down my prepping - but I don't mind as it's only one day ), and I even contrived to get back a bit early!
Then I heard that a colleague ( and infrequent poster here ) had slipped while out on delivery ( on his first bundle ) in brand new issue boots and now has a suspected fractured hip
Get well soon, Tosser

Tosser is his nickname ( and username here - it comes from when he started as a young lad, and took the piss out of a senior postie with a stutter, who would always tell him "Oh shut up, you to-to-to-to-TOSSER!" He was solid with us during the strikes, and ciould often be found on the cobbles ( which is more than could be said of some, who preferred having the lie in ) and I'm pissed off when someone follows the rules & does the job properly, but is sabotaged by RM issue kit.linkinpark wrote:Bloody hell mate your HARD core! Unless your colleague was a strike breaker. LOL. Then your forgiven cause it just dont matter! But please do your 20% D2Ds a day not all at once as RM use the reduced call rate to cut duties, cut costs and pay Crozier even more bonus than the 3.000.000 quid he got this year!smokerjim wrote:Got my sh*t together today, and mananged to not be the last one out for the first time in a couple of weeks - pretty happy with that, especially as all my D2Ds were in the frame ( it always slows down my prepping - but I don't mind as it's only one day ), and I even contrived to get back a bit early!

First letter 10.15am; last letter 2.30pm - most of light bulbs now dealt with and did last row of D2D's today. Weather was overcast with some sunshine and slightly breezy, but no rain at all.

Day off yesterday, but met my postman and he wasn't happy, loads on. Today was terrible. every walk bulked out with National Trust mags. Off the ips late, just before we went for break at 08.45. Weather was good to us, which meant we stayed dry, just as well really.

Okay day
I didn't need to take a toilet break, but there is a community centre which is a bag drop and they have nice facilities and even a cafe. I didn't take a break and actually got into the DO at 5.35am - I did my D2D's and then started two hours earlier (as per request of my manager) at 6.00am.Big Daz wrote:Blimeymajeed wrote:First letter 10.15am; last letter 2.30pm - most of light bulbs now dealt with and did last row of D2D's today. So that was an official shift of eight and a half hours (nine hours, unofficially... and then there was about one hour spent getting home).

Dirty looks
There would be a lot less dirty looks and comments from the general public if Royal Mail came out publicly and stated that the earliest a postman will get onto his walk an deliver his first letter weekdays will be about 10am, due to (I believe?) the airports altering their timings and about 8.30 weekends (I notice nobody says, "You're early, aren't you?" - in fact, I've (jokingly) started apologising for being early!). But I think the uproar would be terrific. I don't know why, though. As long as you get your mail, does it actually matter what TIME you receive it?kwf166 wrote:You were lucky then - and you even managed to complete your D2Ds! sometimes you think we were murders, the way the public talk or treat us posties, but like some have mention in another thread, we seem to have lost the respect
Regarding start times: my contract is from 9am until 2pm. When I started (and this is the same for all new postmen, when they first start), they come in at the times they are contracted to do, but then they get no end of grief from the rest of the people in their district, because they are claimed to be 'holding everyone up'. It is not the new postman's fault: all they know is that they are expected to work from x hours until x hours, but they get tongue-lashed by the driver and the other postmen who rely on the driver to be taken out. I have seen several new postmen driven to distraction by this situation. Personally, once I started to experience this, I went to my manager and told him I would need to come in earlier, and explained that if I didn't do so, I would not be able to get my work done on time: he was okay with this, and from then on, we have always both negotiated with each other, regarding the times that I come in on a morning, with changes made, as situations change, throughout the year.

Start at 10 today, same as always, my driver will have left when i get in and around 10.30 after i have tied up a manager will ask why i miss van every day. First letter will be around 11am and because all drivers have left, i'll have at least 1 failing 1pm special.
