As full timers retire or leave RM will need eg: 60 walks / 30 full timers if the balance in your office isn't 50/50 then some staff will have increased hours, not sure about SPDO or very small units???. Cutting off is a good weapon, recently 2 part timers have had their hours increased to 36hrs from 30 due to cutting off nearly everyday RM don't have an option here, either pay up or find other bodies to do it.genesis wrote:If full timers throw in a part time walk, Instead of sorting because of walk sequencing machines: where are the part time walks coming from? I suggest they will be reduced full time ones. therefore will there be an enforced buy down or gradual reduction in full time work?
In our office if the machines were in now , full timers would have an extra hour + to do their work because they would not be on the ips.
so until full timers job are reduced ,remaining full timers would not have any part time walks to prep.

Now don't quote me on this but this has happened down my way, here's what happened...redhand wrote:My 4 month contract ran out on 4 June and I'm told it just keeps "rolling". How long can they drag this on for? Is there any legal timescale?
One of our guys was on a temp 12 week contract, what happened was because RM still employed him after the contract had finished (My DOM forgot to get rid of him)they HAD to give him a full time job.
The thing was my DOM did not want to keep him but by a new law apparently he had to.
From what i remember as my DOM has now gone, the time limit is 3 months.
You need to double double check this, get your rep to get your area to check it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Cheers Postman. So I should be ok for a full time contract as I've now done over 7 months? Asked the union guy but he shrugged his shoulders and said it just keeps "rolling". Can't go on like that for ever. Sounds like it should be ok fingers crossed.

That is not a company line but the law of the land as i believe it to be but i am no union rep nor a solicitor and some will say thank god!.redhand wrote:It just gets worse!!! 2 years?![]()
Surely someone must know the official Company line. You cant honestly be on a temporary 2 year "rolling" contract can you?
It's beyond a joke! Farcical even!

It used to be 2 years before your employer was obliged to give you a permanent contract, but if I remember
correctly the Government changed it to 12 months earlier this year. The unions wanted it to be 6 months,
and the EU wanted it to be 12 weeks, but the CBI's pressure prevailed (as usual).

I think you are entitled to a permanent contract not a full time contract - you could be years away from a full time contract and i mean years. Contact your union rep and ask him what the rules say.
