You will forgive me for not reading all of the above reference but there is no need for a political fund to write to Government, Assemblies, Organisations or indeed MPs - many of whom have been sponsored by the CWU - who then bite the hand etc. In fact it could be construed that the political fund is a sort of bribe so that there is undue weight paid to the opinion of those making the donation - not that it works of course. And for those purposes we do not need a separate fund - we only need the fund IF the union becomes embroiled in political affairs. There should be a complete divorce from political affairs such as stop the war etc - that has absolutely nothing to do with union business.

Belive it or not Im coming round to your view point to a certain extent.

A lot of Labour party meetings are open to non members so if a CWU bod or a bod from any other TUC union cant go along as a guest and lay out the CWU view and get the LP to take on that view point based on purley the strength of the argument put across without loads of donations and affilation fees then some thing is wrong!

How ever as the law stands there will still be a need for a political fund as it covers a broad area of political activties and not just money to political parties.

Maybe if she had the binoculars the other way round the good lady would be less accommodating. :Very Happy

The political scene is pretty desperate for Labour at the moment BD. It's one disaster after another - if they win the next election I'll show my backside on the Town Hall steps. Perhaps they could persuade Gordon to appear on CWU TV, that would spell the end of the road and save us a bob or two. Having said that he hasn't exactly been a tower of strength for the CWU up to now, nor Alan Johnson who also enjoyed financial support from the rank and file and look where that has got us. If the political levy law has been around since 1913 then it's time the law was changed - all good things must come to an end sooner or later. I think it's time to say that the gravy has run out.

It dosent need to come to a end because the Political Fund is optional ,voluntary, not compolsoury to pay into. It does need changing though so one can pay into a political fund without any of there money going to a political party.

The political fund will be used to pay for the march rally protest whatever you want to call it at the LP conference on the 22nd september.

The very reason the law came into being in the first place by a liberal government I belive was due to a lot of argy bargy around trade unions and political spending in the early 1900's. Basically i would describe it as a compromise.

In that case i recomend the Green Party of England and Wales who elected Carolin Lucas as its first ever leader friday evening. The Scottish Green Party is a separate party but obvisouly allong with the Green Party for Ireland works closely with the Green Party in England and Wales.

Have a read of her speech and be totally inspired!

I dont think you would be right, but I will make enquiries.

Im hoping to discuss GP links with trade unions with a Green MEP canidate for the East of England so will hopefully discuss your point with him.

What I will be putting to my local green party is that by getting unadressed leaflets into RM rather than our competiors can actually reduce the amount of leaflets floating around the country as peole can opt when Rm deliver the leaflets which they cant do with when leaflets are in magazines or amazon parcles or delivered by our rivals. This reduces the overall amount of leaflets whilst boosting income for Royal Mail to put in our wages.

Influence them by the strength of our argument, compare this to Labour where the leader of the labour party wont support us in our time of need despite massive amounts of money.

I wish you well my brother and the greens do have some good policys!. And like you said what better way for the greens too put forth their message than the hummble walking postman/woman who deliver's too every doorstep in the land!. It is a pity NEW labour has forsaken us all and cast us into the web of two of the most blue bloodied bas*ards we have ever seen NEW LABOUR=NEW TORY!. Maybe your right and most of our socialist brothers have found a new ship too steer our own course through these's troubled water's!.

Can't disagree with the stated objectives of the greens,no sane person could. However their program and methods will achieve nothing. Any fool can see ,it does not matter how much you tinker and tweak a system that has at it's foundation an absolute need for continual and increasing growth in a world of finite resources, that sooner or later crunch day will come.
And as for windfall taxes, what a crock. Yet another neat little establishment diversion, it's like watching wrestling on the World of Sport. Just nationalise the greedy energy companies, no payment due."oh we have to increase our prices cos our raw materials have gone up" why are your profits up massively? and, how come if your margins are being squeezed you've just managed to increase the average shareholder dividend by 20%? :shhhhh
Bye
