Solution is easy.

Remove the cap on D2Ds.

Automate them so they come prepacked.

Â£25-Â£30 built into basic pay for all posties.

D2Ds absorbed into workload. (book over if you go over doing D2Ds)

Everyones a winner, RM gain vast amounts of extra revenue from the extra D2Ds with very little extra cost. Workers don't have to prep them but still get paid for them. Weight on delivery is the only possible issue.

I would not want the extra weight ! We are tired enough! I suggest keeping it no more than 3, with an amount put into basic salary.

I agree, weight on delivery will be the issue. But how about this for a solution:

Anything that is awkward to carry (like 100s of small packets of stupid samples), or heavy (local council newspapers) should still be treated separately, and as before, with their own unit payment, and not in workload?

I heard that raised as part of a discussion around D2D in the North East recently.

And we also make sure H&S issues are a mandatory (not optional) part of the national agreement: bag weights, bag drops, delivery spans, etc.

I would only go for any change in payment from what it is now (not including increase in unit payment of course

) once they can mechanise them. Also if the ones that can only see the money

and not the long term effect, vote to accept any offer where they are mechanised, the CWU better get the agreement as tight as possible. My main areas of concern would be.

1. 20% per day even for cover staff.
2. A cast iron limit on weight per bundle of D2D even if there is no limit on the amount of them.
3. The 20% should be evened out over the whole duty and not just the 1st 20% Monday - the 2nd 20% Tuesday. I don't know about anyone else but I spread mine out at the moment.
4. If no weight limit or 20% not evened out then we need more safe drops and bag drop boxes.
5. Prep to be part of the official working time (No more must be sorted in your own time)

please remember that the best offer as it stands ie Â£2000 one off payment means that for 1 year you are effectively paid more than you would be, but for the rest of your time at RM you will be delivering them for nothing, in fact for a pay drop of Â£1000-Â£1500. The only acceptable position to me would be - fully mechanised and walk sorted sorted D2D and and agreed amount added to everyone's basic pay.

Never understood that one though.
Do they honestly expect customers to remember how much crap they get through their door each week considering all the other stuff that comes with the free local newspaper to other leaflets etc?

How is some old dear supposed to be a reliable source when someone starts quizzing her what came through her letterbox on a particular week?

Mayb if they go to 10 houses in a row and all of them say they did not get it?? mayb would need to be 20?? who knows!!!! god help us !! me for example never even look at what i get in my mail with regards to offers!!!Only things i read are the wee local papers that come thro.

ok i'm a 1st timer @ this but when i saw the dreaded d2d post i had to coment- would i be correct in saying that RM classes this as a separate payment..If this is the case are we not getting paid less than the minimum wage of £5.73 per hour as if you have 1 d2d its gonna take 3.5hrs to deliver them all no matter if its 20% a day or blitzing them in one day so my calculation on 1 d2d would be £5.73x3.5hrs which a delivery takes hitting evry door which adds up to about £20 for 1 set where as i get about £7.60 for one set.

p.s are we actually obliged to deliver d2d if its a separate payment or can we refuse???

1. Min Wage - sorry does not apply for 2 reasons I think - One its an allowance and 2 all earnings are combined when calculating min wage so on both reasons we fail.

2. We are obliged to deliver D2Ds in fact failure to do so is a criminal offence under the "Delay of Mail" section of whatever postal act is in force.
