What happens when your are ten minutes late?
Hello...
What happens in your office if your are running late and arrive some ten minutes after your start time?
What is your start time, has it changed in this last year, and does the 1400hrs finish for town deliveries dictate your current start time?

Our Manager is OK as long as you ring in before and put the correct time down. However, he does expect you to go over by 10mins to make up, and if your full time as long as you do the agreed amount of time on IPS there is no comeback for a one off. Repeated offenders are conducted..
Yes we changed with the Pay and Mod agreement to 0600 from 0500.
All deliveries should be arranged that the normal finishing time is in line with the national agreements and contracts - namely 1400 for town deliveries and 1500 for rural I believe.

Most of the managers at our place are so relived when you come in late they arn`t arsed, they would end up having to do it as we are so under staffed,so are always glad to see us.
I feel so wanted and valued.

I believe by the book ( unless it's changed ) discipline for lateness should be done in about 5 stages in the same way as CofC or RMAP - If it was fairly applied I wouldn't have a problem with that and contrary to a certain site I and many others aren't adverse to discipline , it's just the inconsistent & corrupt / underhand application of it that is responsible for the worst IR in 20 years .scooby wrote:jack shite where i work some come in 15min late every day then go walk about.

Norbs,from a bad memory,if you're late 3 times i think in a month they can pull you,then there's another stage,another 3 times or summin,and i think the next stage is the sack!!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If I do remember rightly there was that you mention for persistent lateness , the idea was to give you enough rope to hang yourself with ( old school RM ) , I distinctly remember action short of dismissal as a punishment stage and yes the tin tack .POSTMAN wrote:If i'm 10 mins late.................i'm early!!

Sounds if RM have streamlined the old one which started as a ticking off as the first -then making good the time and so on and so forth .

If it's a one off thing, not much, but if it's persistant, then the manager will have a word.
Usualy if you are late, the boys will just moan and complain and call you names. W anchors.

16 LATE ATTENDANCE
An employee who repeatedly attends late without an acceptable excuse will be dealt with under the discipline procedure and in extreme cases this could lead to dismissal. Managers should keep appropriate written records of late attendance. While pay may not be stopped for late attendance persistent offenders may be required to make up lost time.
As a general indicator a persistent late attender is someone who incurs 4 unexcused lates in excess of 5 minutes during any 3 month period.
Counselling should be the response in dealing with employees who are persistently late. Where counselling does not bring about the desired improvement the matter should be dealt with under the discipline procedure. The normal appeal procedure will apply.
The agreed guidelines are contained in Appendix 2.
Appendix 2
LATE ATTENDANCE NATIONAL GUIDELINES
Punctuality is important to the efficient operation of the service and every employee has a duty to attend punctually at their scheduled time. Good timekeeping is a matter of attitude and helps to contribute to the overall morale and performance of working colleagues.
All employees must record their attendance daily by the locally agreed method unless their duties prevent them from doing so when other prescribed arrangements should be used e.g. diaries. Attendance times should be recorded accurately. It is the employee's obligation to explain to their manager the reasons when they attend late.
1. Late Attendance of Less than 5 Minutes
Late attendances of less than five minutes should normally be ignored unless they become frequent in which case the employee concerned will be warned that further occurrences could lead to formal discipline.
2. Excused Late Attendance
Late attendance incurred in the following circumstances should normally be excused and not be counted towards the standard set out in para 4.
a) where known, confirmed, unavoidable interruption to the normal means of transport occurs, e.g. breakdowns, severe weather conditions, etc.
b) due to domestic distress
Where excusing late attendance is appropriate the actual time of attendance should be recorded with a brief explanatory note from the manager.
3. Unexcused Late Attendance
Unexcused late attendances should be recorded accurately on the appropriate form for monitoring purposes. The manager should also ensure the individual is made aware that the late attendance has been recorded as unexcused.
Where an employee does not comply with the standard in paragraph 1, the initial response should be to counsel him/her. Where that fails to bring about the required improvement, the employee will be subject to the Conduct Code.
4. Persistent Late Attender
As a general indicator a persistent late attender is someone who incurs 4 unexcused lates in excess of 5 minutes during any 3 month period. Furthermore, combined late attendances of 2 hours or more may in some circumstances amount to unacceptable or persistent late attendance.

Most of the clocks at our place don't tell the correct time (usually 3-5 minutes fast). So by those rules you could be classed as late if you turn up dead on 0600, when the work clock might display 0605.
TBH I've never heard of anyone being booked for being 5 minutes late, so it looks like common sense rules!
