More than 100 households are believed to have been affected after a Royal Mail postbag was stolen last week.
The theft happened last Wednesday, August 27, while a Royal Mail delivery person was completing a round covering Marsh Road, Icknield Road and Norton Road.
A trolley containing the bag full of mail had been temporarily chained to a lamppost while post was being put through letterboxes, and it is believed the thief used bolt-cutters to break the chain securing the trolley before stealing the bag inside.
It is thought the stolen mail represented about two-thirds of the round, and householders have had letters from Royal Mail telling them about the theft.
A company spokesman said the matter was now being dealt with by police.
Paul Troughton-Rogerson from the Communication Workers' Union (CWU), said no action was being taken against the employee involved.
He said: "You can't really help it if someone with bolt-cutters comes along but they're not going to use a trolley in this particular area any more.
"It doesn't happen very often because the bags are normally very heavy. The postmen never go very far from the trolleys, there are guidelines on how far away you can be."

I think I will, my walk is over 3 times that size, and what about those walks with 700-800 calls.BELIAL wrote:Apply to Luton ,Trolley walks with 150 calls, Xanadu
There must be some very, very long drive ways on that walk then, unless the whole truth isn't being published of course.
