Winter of dis-content?
Hi fellow sufferers.
Our office is a shambles, stripped to the bone of all hours, jobs not covered, bullying, harrassment, lying etc and staff on the edge. I read this excellent site time and again and realise this is now institutional, but i know people and they will say ENOUGH i am hoping that this winters surge will be that tipping of the edge.
I am a union rep and quite honestly i am dreading and looking forward to the winter in equal measures, what do you think will happen?

Your office sounds just like mine. I think that we will just stumble on from one crisis to another as it seems no one cares anymore. Royal mail it seems, want people to get that fed up and leave so they can replace them with so-called bag carriers. Keeping costs down is their number one priority.

Sounds the same as my office
but I really think that senior management don't care, just as long as they are getting their bonuses.
I really believe that someone is going to snap and there will be a dead manager as a result of it (you only have to look at the American examples of workplace shootings).

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

By the sound of it every office up and down the country is in the same boat; sinking FAST!
We have all survived the 'light mail?' summer; can we expect anything other than a nightmare of a winter?
The so called 'Summer Efficency' was a total disaster, now they expect us to carry on and cover for sick/special leave/etc
You can only beat a dog for so long; before he turns on you.
Keep strong and keep together!

Have you ever walked into your DO with the rest of your mates and its like walking into a sea of york's with mail just stashed everywhere, wall to wall mailsort.
That's how it is in ours you can't move, the only thing that i can say is that the bully's that are running the office have made it clear there is no hours spare, health and safety they don't know the meaning.
A temp member of staff came back of her delivery at 17.30 in the evening crying she has had enough, what an introduction to your working life, nothing for our so called managers to be proud of,they wern't even there when she got back one of the lads was and took her home as she had come in with her mum who also works in the city.
The office is in a complete mess, the staff tired of being treated like a bit of muck on someones shoes, its very sad to see it but the staff still keep on going and we do our best to give some sort of service to our customers.
We have had managers telling us everyday that if we don't jump when they shout then we face suspension, one manager is ex army and tells us all the time he will suspend us if we don't go to the IPS bench fast, never mind it will soon be christmas.

I assume you've already tried getting your H&S Rep, and the Area H&S Rep involved. So you can now contact HSE on 08453450055, and put in a formal complaint about them. You don't have to give your name, if you don't want to. Just make sure you went through the local and area Reps first. That way, you're covered by the "Whistle Blower's Charter", should your Manager find out it was you.bandit650 wrote:Have you ever walked into your DO with the rest of your mates and its like walking into a sea of york's with mail just stashed everywhere, wall to wall mailsort.

HSE won't necessarily come and do an inspection. It depends on how serious they think it is. But should anyone get hurt, because of the H&S failures. It'll all be on record, and they'll be able to get RM in a great deal of trouble. The Law takes a dim view of careless Employers these days.

there is certainly an air of intimidation in our delivery office.hopefullly if people see that you dont have to do mandatory o/t and stick to your guns(get a rep in with you or a friend).anybody who works to there time automatically get sorting checks ,speed rates etc which is corparate bullying.
