Postman retires after 25 years

A Falmouth man is hanging up his post bag after decades of faithful service to Royal Mail.

Lynn Jardine, who lives in Arwennack Avenue, is enjoying his retirement on turning 60.

He started off making deliveries in the town in the early 1980s, before he moved to Budock Water where he stayed for 13 years.

After a staff reshuffle around four years ago he was sent to Mylor, where he finished working as a postman.

Mr Jardine said: “I had a thoroughly good career. I would honestly say I have enjoyed every minute of it. Obviously I have had my ups and downs but I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

“As far as I was concerned I drove around in my little red office. It was just a pure social event - that was the part I really enjoyed. It was just the people I met.”

Working for Royal Mail since 1983 has meant Mr Jardine witnessed numerous changes to the way Royal Mail has operated over the years.

He said: “I saw an awful lot of change - the whole change in the structure of it when it became a big business. Once we had competition in and we realised it was going to be a fairly cut-throat business, everything started to change.”

Mr Jardine is now looking forward to having an active retirement getting involved in volunteer projects, and also spending time with his wife.

He said: “I have decided now is my time and I am going to enjoy it.”
