personally i would hang all multiple murderers, and murderers in a nother criminal act.ie,bank robber shooting a policeman or cashier.but thats just me. :coolr
We rarely have a public vote on anything. The public has its say at a general election and votes for the party the believe best represents their views. Those elected then debate the topics of the day and pass laws this is the method that the UK has worked under since votes for all and this is how the death sentence was repealed. So in a long winded way what I am saying is that a decision has been reached through a recognised and legal democratic processes, yet you have a right to debate about bringing the death sentence back. This surely in turn allows those who voted "No" to the agreement to attempt to change those who did not vote or those who voted "Yes". Its democracy in action and this is what I was addressing in your post :
well being a union and majority rule rules ,if 90percent couldnt give a toss.your supposed to accept it not try your hardest to convert them all to your own thoughts.basic union princples
As to the death sentence I am a fence sitter.

Some crimes may deserve death such as child rape and murder of children, but where do you draw the line between punishment and revenge. :hmmmm

Capital Punishment became gradually unpopular over the years especially with miscarriage of justice cases like Timothy Evans and Derek Bentley - then there was the crime of passion case of Ruth Ellis and alleged other issues & agendas so it was abolished in 1965 with a Wilson ? Labour Government ?

Treason was still a capital offence - in fact hanging appratus still had to be tested in British Prisons - technically IRA Terrorists and leaders could have swung but the possible martydom may have backfired on a British government - in any case the EEC had it abolished and Britain had conceeded it's sovereignity to it .

Mrs Thatcher was pro capital punishment but the free votes were always defeated in Parliament .

Albert Pierrepont said Hanging served no purpose bar revenge and was medieval and the problem was everybody and everybody thought they could decide who and who shouldn't swing .

For the worst of the worst - there may be a case for hanging - Brady & Hindley were "fortunate " that it had been recently abolished , I believe the Judge who tried the Kray Twins wanted to hang them - they may have been forgotten about and not become legendary , the apparent police corruption in the 60's was a issue too .

The one that really cleaned up on police corruption was Sir Robert Mark in the 70's .

From what I remember the Northern Ireland No 1 Branch did a protest at the Liverpool AGM and there was a piece from the Northern Irish version of the Sunday Mail uploaded onto this site's thread on the issue .

A certain selective news site did a piece about the Northern Ireland No 1 Branch allegedly picketing it's own union HQ, these sort of articles are hardly a surprise .

You have to be very careful what you say about GS Billy Hayes as he has allegedly considered legal action and there has been allegations of apparent rants and tirades against RMC .
MURDERERS. Need to dispose of a body? Simply parcel it up and post it to yourself via DHL. You will never see it again.
