This is what is says in the 'agreement', but does this really apply to summer scheduling?Variation of hours – Where necessary, for example when traffic volumes are unexpectedly high or resourcing issues arise, individuals may be asked and may themselves request to vary their duty times by up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis. Again, individual circumstances will be taken into account and total weekly contractual hours would not change.
I think RM are taking advantage if it does....

Its 100% voluntary and they can ask you on the same day,and they have to give it back to you in the same week.
You can't be forced to do it,but you also can't refuse all the time.
And it's all year round, not just in the summer.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I see what you mean about my 1st bit,ok it is voluntary, but the agreement expects a bit of give and take on both sides.
If you refuse all of the time they will want to know why, personally i've got a 'picking up children from school' excuse as we are 3 o'clock finish at my place.
As for Saturdays, you CAN'T be flexi on that day, unless you owe them hours.
You can of course claim docket,or ram the agreement up their nose if they try to push it on that day.
Also negoatiate when you are to get your hours back the same day they are asking you to flex up,have none of this 'we'll see' bollox.Get the hours back on your terms not theirs, after all you're doing them a favour,in YOUR TIME!

Flexibility only works if you have a light monday and tuesday and make time to use for the end of the week where volumes are higher.
I cant see how you can get your 30 mins back when wed, thurs, fri and sat's are nightmares.
We don't make time any day of the week at the moment with possibly the exception of monday providing management let us out of the door
and not hold us us for miss-sorts etc.
