hi all,
thankfully i am going on holiday for a week this coming monday. could only book off 5 days as thats all i had left, so that covers monday to sunday. however flight times have just changed which means that i wont be back until the following monday which is the day that i was due back. i cant really take this day off sick as my sick record isnt great to be honest. so would it be possible to take the monday and maybe even the tuesday as special leave? and if so should the guy in the book room now or should i wait till the day and tell him i cant make it?
cheers :hmmmm

As a local rep I'd advise you to contact your DOM asap, BEFORE leaving as your needs should be accommodated. There should be some way for you to have the day off, even if you have to swap rest days with a colleague or owe your DOM a day. You say your record is not that good? I'd advise caution mate and advance notice of any absences

If the flight is very early on Monday and you can get to work say 10.30am for example. Make an offer to deliver the post for the day as you can't do sorting or IPS or whatever.

This might be best compromise if Royal Mail is not helpful.

Thats strange!! I booked a holiday for the end of September Flights being Sat to Sat Which was great as the flight out was late on sat evening (which is last day of working before holiday) so could make it to airport whilst still working that morning!! But that flight was changed to morning when I should be at work... I did panic (knowing how awkward managers can be at this moment in time).. So managed to arrange a swap of day offs with a colleague... I guess I am lucky as my first day of my hols is now extended!!! :dance :dance That must be your best bet!! GOOD LUCK!! :pray

Even if you had a perfect Sick Record, I wouldn't reccomend "throwing a sickie". We have enough hassle from Managers when we are ill, as it is. :d'oh! They CLAIM, that they are trying to weed out, those who aren't really ill. It would be playing into their hands, if they actually caught anyone doing that.

Yes, as above mate. Had a now "EX" colleague go away and like an idiot, he overstayed without the leave or making arrangements otherwise.

Flexibility protocols

That's good advice: there's always an honest, straightforward way of doing things. At the last WTLL session, we heard that as part of flexibility, we could switch our days off with other posties, without notifying our district managers. For future reference, and if you also have that protocol in place, it seems that your "bacon" will be saved: you just need to clear the extra day, in lieu of your day off, with the other postie in question.

You're an asset to the organisation: we only want the best for you. Have many, happy experiences on your travels!
