You are walking briskly when:

your heart beats faster than normal but is not racing
your breathing is deeper than usual but conversation is still possible
you experience a warm glowing feeling

Are they sure this is brisk walking - I certainly get these feelings but I'm not walking :angel

This is crazy - spouting figures is nonsense...theres only one way to make sure a walk is long enough and thats for a manager or whoever to go out with the postie.

Yea, but even so each of us have different levels of fitness, you or i may not be as fit as the 20 year old next to us to races round. I know myself im not as fast as i was 8 years ago  They need to work out an average time. My idea is take 3-4 people of all ages and levels of fitness and figure out an average, that is fair. :Applause

Simple you do the job 'properly' at a speed thats comfortable for you. You don't under any circumstances agree to any set level of speed wether they want it or not. if you have to speed up from your normal pace then it's a no no. they can tell you anything they want but cannot force you to rush around more than you did previously. They have to accept that staff do get older as the years go by and obviously you will go slower as you age creeps ever upwards. They cannot and dare not say 'it's a young mans game now' as this will lead them straight in the courts for ageisim. and if this attitude does prevail then a case must be brought against them and the manager who dares to flaunt this law

and under no circumstances should you be 'averaged' out this sort of thing will lead to stress and no doubt to ill health by those who are forceing you to 'go there pace'

do the job properly is the way to go as axeman says.

especially when it comes to the revision. any job proposed that is questionable TEST IT

and make sure the test is fair and done at the same call rate as Pegasus runs at in your area

speed 2 altho' more favourable still hasn't been fully agreed as far as i'm aware, so is open to local negotiation. i guess its to be looked upon at a starting block

so its up to the members to make sure that every single job is duable.

even if the proposed revision in your office works well for lets say 80% of the walks, its up to all the members to still stick their necks out for the other 20% who are still getting a raw deal.

What of 'doing your job properly' becomes the new 'pegasised' walks? Who decided what doing your job properly is? RM or CWU or both?

lol, 80% was plucked out of the air as an example that was all :angel

ok

Deadhead time for cycle = any distance that reaches or exceeds 30m triggers 'deadhead speed'

this should explain any deadhead time in a walk shown on a time scale as a result of the Pegasus revision

-

regarding Pegasus & speeds have we as a union had the wool pulled over our eyes?

ok, today i learned via someone on the management side who probably kicked himself as soon as he said it, that:

the default speed settings in Pegasus can not be over rode manually at all

this came via him from one of Royal Mails top dogs on Pegasus (who's name i i'd better not display)

no matter what speed inputs are changed & used it will have no effect on the walks created what so ever, as it will always fall back on its pre set default settings

if this is proven to be the case then it raises many questions! :no no

as anyone got any other evidence which may back this up?

in hope

That wouldn't surprise me one iota, I suppose the best way to test it, is have a round done, and then make a entry with differnt walk speed (or any option regaarding speed, but just change 1 setting) and then compile round again - if there is a differnce then the new settings should be working.

exactly mate,

i've flagged this up to area level and above, so hopefully questions should be asked.

sadly i'm not in position myself in our office to get back into Pegasus as our Pegasus trained manager is moving elswhere .. we are now looking into manual revision working from Pegasus optimization

but that doesn't stop anybody else in another office trying it out

has anyone actually run a exact scenario on Pegasus at speed 1 & speed 2? and compared the difference?, if any,

or ran it changing the speeds to something daft like HCT @ 24.05kph or 1.82kph just to see what happened?

if the changing of speeds does prove to have no effect then 'workload' maybe the key to making manual adjustment to overall speeds by creating a knock on effect.

this will have to be explored.

Most important thing to remember with pegasus revision is that there is no national agreement if they come back with somthing you think is unworkable take it to disagreement through the IR framework!

if you haven't done the cwu training on pegasus ask for duty release to do the course before the revision otherwise you will be fighting with your hands tied behind your back.

There was two walking speeds when the system was originally developed under a 2.5 hour delivery span 3.84 MPH & 4MPH as weve sinced moved to 3.5 hour delivery span (and 4 hour delivery span is practically agreed between cwu & rmg for introduction of automation) rmg have removed the lower walking speed counter to everything that "industrial engineers" would do. (mention that to them!) aparently you can get back into the system and reintroduce the 3.84 MPH walking speed don't know how that works though.

Also keep an eye on the attendance call rate (pkts, recorded, specials) i think the default rate is 1.7% that works out roughly at 1 every 60 calls I assume yous will do more than that and you get additional time for every attendance call.

dont agree to it use unless they are using it on all walks in your office it's "a tool to balance work loads" not for making savings they may try to cherry pick walks they think are light.

sorry if this is posted to late to help you but then maybe someone else will find it useful best of luck.

thanks for the post...this relates to our office...we have just tested 2 deliveries carved out by Pegasus...both are underestimated by around an hour...even had a manager out with us to confirm manual test not fiddled by the "awkward" CWU rep and his testing postie...a long winter of disagreement ahead...

The problem I have is that they want 650/700 houses with an 85% call rate but with the official information I'll be able to fight the results better.

TBH I've a real problem fighting this whenever the union should be fighting it for us (that's what we pay them for).

Well said linkin park, the area rep in my region allowed Pegasus into his own office testing a single walk(!)...I test 4 walks, all over by at least an hour and get suspended for the privilige!!!!!
