Remember when people had respect for the Postie?

Any one remember the good days when people were actually happy to see there postman & treated him with a bit of respect.
Now days we deliver so much rubbish & junk mail that people just treat you like something they have stepped in.

A great man indeed. I had the honour to be one of those servicemen lining a street in London at his funeral in 1965.

And as a 9 years old at the time I think I am right in saying his state funeral was broadcast on the telly!

Well I was twice your age then - but I bet I'm not twice your age now - incidentally if your were born in 56 you were born the same year as my wife. I think it was on the TV - you may have seen me waving and shouting "hello mum"

dvbuk55 I was 1 - 1/18th of your age - now if my maths is right i am roughly 2/3rds first thing I remember being on telly was Neil Armstrong on the Moon (or perhaps in a back lot of Hollywood

)

Yes he fought off the Nazis, with a little help from the Queen Mother in the East End of London, but take off the rose coloured spectacles and don't forget that he used troops to 'maintain order' during a Welsh miners strike and that during the General Strike of 1926 he was reported to have suggested that machine guns be used on the striking miners. Perhaps he was the inspiration to Thatcher in her hatred of the miners.

He did fight off the nazis with his fine inspireing word's and oration but it was our armed force's combined by the allied power's which won the war!. It is such ashame we could not get all the nazis in the end :cfo & :lfo

I was having a chat with a postie in the delivery office this morning early on - well before missorts (as you know, it was extremely quiet today). He was saying that most people don't give two hoots who their postie is or even know who he is: they just get their mail through the letterbox and that's that. He said that's how he as with his own postie! I had to admit that I was of the same opinion: I don't care who delivers my mail, as long as I get it. Let's face it: you're nice to someone as long as they have something you want.

It's worth pointing out that you've been a postie for less than a year,and while it may not matter who actually delivers the mail,i can assure you my
customers always know when i'm off.
my philosophy is treat people how you expect to be treated yourself.
some of the even more senior postmen of this site will point to the fact that they have got to know their customers and have even watched their kids grow up
and become their postmen!
in this age of the rush around postie,you only get back what you put in.
