This should be the final week of 'Summer Savings' BUT Phase 3 Efficiency begins almost immediately...hah! In one hand and out the other mate.

Yeah still doing summer lapsing but we finish or our last day of lapsing is on Saturday!! Got to say OT sheets through lapsing was quite high due to cut offs...

Must ask!!! Are we supposed to do summer lapsing next year? Even though phase 3 will be in place then? Just cant see as that will work lapsing this year just about happened... Cant see the to together working!!

Summer lapsing at our office, as far as delivery is concerned, means taking out the streets usually delivered by part-timers, but only on Tuesdays. And so the part-timers rest day has been fixed as Tuesday from week 8 through to week 24, the last Tuesday that is affected will be the 9th September, and we didn't start doing this until about week 10. Of course not everyone has a walk that is big enough to warrant a part-timer and so some people are not doing anything extra even on a Tuesday.

As far i can say is NO but do not forget PHASE 3 is to utilise all work hour's and is to staff the workload to workplan ie ( change the amount of postworker's to volume of mail on a daliy basis according to the workplan for that week ) .

I have heard of a work plan - but it beggars belief that there actually is one. Our office seems to have a no plan work plan - we seem to stagger from one week to the next. As for phase three - if summer lapsing has been a disaster then we are in for a treat.

Apparently all DSA provider's must submit all posting's a week in advance of posting and royalmail know posting's of bulk mail in advance hence the "WORKPLAN".

and with your area being hit pretty hard by MC closures soon its not going to a pretty couple of years. You have my sympathy, and dread of when RM implement their slash and burn, sorry, modernisation and streamlining plan (always get the 2 mixed up) hits our area.

I must admit I am a little out of touch with current plans for phase three and the MC closures. I do know our DO is earmarked as a site for WS machines though when is another matter. I am not familiar with how accurate these machines are but there does seem to be a lot of unanswered questions about flat and packet sorting - mention that to a manager and out comes the gallic shrug and the dumb look, though the dumb look seems au naturel the gallic shrug is a 3 day course.

In the good old days when we used to have a quiet summer, I used to think of it as a thank you from RM for working my boll*cks off at xmas for them. Now that I have been hounded for 16 weeks for saying no thanks to summer lapsing I can only return the favour by working to my time over xmas. Yes I could do with the money but if they want me to work my hours in the summer then they can have it that way in the winter too. Bah! Humbug!!

Quite right too Broxi. Summer lapsing failed down here but I hear it's only been put on the back burner. As you said, they only want us to work our hours (that we are paid to work) so if there's no goodwill from RM at any time of the year why should we show it at Christmas? I'm disappointed that it has come to this, but they made their bed, let them lie in it.

We had 4 walks lapse at our place mon-fri
2 our for town duties to do and 2 are for rurals.
The rurals are split it half and one week one half does it for the whole week and the next week the other half does it.
The town do it every other day.
Its defently not working though,we have our line managers going out every day delivering,i just wish they would get some balls and tell there managers above it isnt working! But im wondering who is doing the managers job when they are deilvering? kinda proves we don't need as many managers and need more posties.
Our office is full of muppets though,we have probley over 70% of town use there cars still and you just can't get it into there heads it isnt job and finish anymore,ppl keep moaning at me cause i refuse to take out the extra on the busy days cause i havent got time,but i tell them im just doing my job how it should be done and if they did that too they wouldnt have to do the extra because they wudnt have time!
Thats my moan over
