He also missed out "than" in "other than paranoia". I do like his dig about "work for free" although he has taken what was said on fluffy out of context. The OP was commenting and asking on how flexibility was going in other area which I don't see as bad.

Mind you his true politics comes out later when he tries to belittle views a little to the left of his.

What annoys me about this is that people in other jobs that cover their colleagues holidays or sick leave usually are able to prioritise the workload, both theirs and their colleague, they can decide or it is decided for them which part of the work is done and when, they can combine both workloads usually because they are sitting at a desk . We are not able to do this, the work that comes in is the work that goes out. If these people can complete all the work of both themselves and their colleague, then their employer is employing at least one person too many.

You don't hear about firemen, doctors, nurses, policemen etc covering sick or holidays, as they need a set number of personnel, just like we do.

Teebs is spot on the real politics - it's basically , "I'm right , you're wrong - anyone to the left of Mrs T is a raving Trot or Tankie " , a form of bullying in reality &" I'm pretending to be Liberal ."

What you have to be careful with the lapsing and covering is Team working / Starburst being brought in through the back door and with RM it'll be a divisive and destructive way of playing people up against each other .

Some managers openly admit it's a cheap way of getting staff to do their jobs for them .

Maybe my view is Jurassic , but so is paying frequent visits to Industrial Tribunals and poor IR / Management styles from the 70's .

Some very fragile egos on the fluffy site and it's sister selective news service site ? - LOL

Probably because they used to be. The older posties at my unit, generally although not exclusively, dislike finishing after 12.00 as they can no longer work 2 jobs.

I am afraid everyone will have to get used to working to their time and most are. What I think is the big problem is the chaotic way that lapsing has been introduced on the ground. We have 1 lapsed section of a walk in my unit and it has to be shared round - no problems there, until you realise that it is not a centralised round in the middle of the area but it is actually the most distant one from the office and is on one side of the area. I will have to travel 15 minutes back to the office and wait 15 mins for a bus to that area, then travel a further 20 mins - do 10 mins delivering and travel 20 minutes back into work. So for 10miuntes work It takes me 1hour 10 minutes travelling and waiting - flexible yes - efficient no way.

In my humble opinion the lapsing would work better if the Managers came up with separate plans for when a duty cant be covered because of unplanned absence. For instance Postman A is sick and does duty 17.

The plan is

Postman B, C and D loose parts of their duties for that day but get Postmans A to cover them between them (worked out in the plan)

Then Postman E F G H I and J cover the lapsed parts of B C and Ds. This means in essence that B C D gain 1/3 of a round but loose 1/6 of theirs (making 1/6 gained) which is shared between 2 other posties (again 1/6 gained). Confusing I know but it can be made to be fair and work.

If worked out properly this is both flexible and efficient. Of course there would have to be safeguards to ensure people don't work beyond their time without agreement but I think and hope that people would be more willing to this form of lapsing than the present one.

Flexible maybe but only if you have some spare capacity most do not and don't wish to extend their working hours at the whim of a 'superior being'
as we have lives outside of royal fail and it really is time they took note of it. I can't argue that maybe some do finish before time but how many of these run the job ?
It seems to me as if the 'superiors' are being leaned on from above and of course they want the bonus thats been offered (bribes) to do it
my answer is if you don't or can't then tell them to shove it and continue to do yours and only yours until such time as the heavy threats start coming
then get your job tested as geo-route is a joke bandied about as gospel by stressed out 'superiors'
