disheartened wrote:I do believe the name was changed to "Consignia"as it would of been a lot easier to privatise the company if the word "Royal"was not in there, but pressure made them change it back,so they could'nt screw the company up then, now they are trying to bankrupt it and drive it in to the ground :no no
The spin and hype that always follows Leighton would like you to believe that he had the Consignia nonsense stopped immediately , however he was allegedly less forthcoming about the £500,000 Golden Handshake for Elmer Toime and the "personalty clashes " - it's also "interesting " that Crozier was made head of letters immediately after a media shafting on C4's "Dispatches ' .

Nice to see this site back and not have to read rubbish about dawdling posties stroking cats - WTF ? & bent posties on a certain site .

I still have the silver [paint?] tie pin which was given to me along with some other worthless certificate for 15 years loyal service.
It must be a collectable [sell on Ebay?]; what a laugh, we were all waiting for the new uniforms to go along with the new name/image.

Ah yes when everything came under the "The Post Office Ltd" umbrella, then a quick change to "Consignia Plc" split the "The Post Office Ltd" off and then change back to "Royal Mail Group Plc" without "The Post Office Ltd" So infact we were split in half and moved from LTD to PLC and thats the only reason they did it.

Remember when we were the GPO and use to empty the coin boxs out of phone boxs .

When we use to work 12 hours days at Xmas , one dly in the morning and one in the afternoon and do a dly on Sundays.

When We had no passenger seats in the vans and we could carry half the dly in the front. When we had morris minor vans and if you did not take the key with you, the van would lock , because it had a yale lock.

Now they were glory days

The practise had stopped before I joined in 1990, but I understand we used to deliver the football pools to every house (not in envelopes). I think they were every fortnight? I remember some of my older colleagues commenting when someone went sick or absent how they would be stacked up on the top of the frames and not touched on overtime.

Presume there was no extra payment for delivering them?
