"To ensure all paid work hours are utilised"

Our rep mentioned this last week, although he said that R/M's interpretation of this was actually to ensure that every minute is utilised. This is the new Way Forward, straight back to the Victorian age.

Bit harsh blaming the rep, it is happening everywhere, they bring in troubleshooting Doms (usually flash harries all mouth and trousers) the trick is to work properly then you have no time to do any absorptions, and it drives them mad!!

We are in the 2nd week of our revision and its going ok at the moment. We lost all our night S/A and 2 walks, but we are all on a 4 day week(05.30-15.30)and have 14 slots of S/A on our walks.A few of the lads have claimed a bit of protracted last week and some frames need to be re-done but so far its not been to bad, might be different when the work picks up in the next few weeks. We only started summer staffing 5 weeks ago just the indoor bit where we would prep up to 3 walks and the delivery would be on overtime.Nothing is happening at the moment due to us going in to our revision,we have a 6 week review period to sort out any probs then who knows whats gonna happen. With no nights and less walks theres not much scope(except on tuesdays)for most of us to do any extra :whistle .

Sorry, I have to clue you in a little mate. yep I'm a beleaguered rep (we do not get paid for this you know) who perhaps was a little too idealistic to believe that I could influence positive change. It's not that your local rep 'caved in' at all (although I wouldn't care to comment on any ulterior motives) but simply following instructions from head office. The CWU have agreed to the new 'Phase 3' savings (look for the topic here) leaving us reps powerless to prevent it.

pinstripe wrote:"Oh! and we're still delivering lightbulbs! Another 20 yorks came in yesterday!
The thing with these bulbs is you are getting (speaking from personal experience) on average four boxes to every house! You think that surely these people can't get anymore and sure enough there's another two appear in your news bag every day! We'll be wrapping them up as Christmas presents shortly!"

My day off today, so my postie knocks my door with a packet for me.
Guess what, LIGHTBULBS!
You'll never guess who they were from, ROYAL MAIL!
You honestly could not make it up.
You'll be getting the Lightbulbs for a while yet. We've still got an entire Agency Seg, sorting nothing but Lightbulbs. We were even given a leaflet advertising the "Leadership Allowance". Which is basically, and allowance for people to train, and lead the Lightbulbs Seg! So it's likley to be going on for a while yet.

Although the allowance itself has been removed we still get it I think its now called 2008 Pay Protection or something similar. However, if anyone who is not in receipt of this, or the allowance before it was removed, is asked to start work at any of the triggering stages of the allowance should still be entitled to it I believe. As I understand it the allowance has not been removed they just adjusted our starting times and came to an agreement with the Union over the loss of take home pay. If anyone is affected it may be worth contacting the pay people at Sheffield to get a ruling.

In our office we're worried that we'll end up starting later (0600) not earlier, I'm used to the 0600 start now, so I wouldn't change without a fight. I think one office in the area has signed up for 4hr town deliveries, I personally think they are the thin edge of the wedge. To my mind 4 hr towns just make getting rid of town deliveries to easy.

Hope your right trublue... But,, I think you only get the allowance through grandfathers rights and that only stands if you stay in the same duty... If you change duty for what ever reason bang goes your grandfathers rights for ESA.. I could be wrong (I usually am).. New entrance wont get it... Thats how I understood it.. :hmmmm :hmmmm

Sorry I pressed the wrong quote... Should be Trueblues previous...

"ogg" is right it was an unpleasant supprise to me how the union H/Q had negotiated away our right to defend our position!. But it did and no rep's were told anything kept in the dark like the rest of us all!. we can still fight with our common sense and do the job properly!.

Thats what we keep saying will happen, in the end you can only do so much. The government, should make up their mind on whether they want a excellent service or to make money, I don't believe you can have both.

It looks as though we're back to the early 90's where we went through new staff like nobody's business, they'd start get a weeks tuition (which is what I still think we should be doing now), and then they'd do a week or 2 on their own and then leave:( Plus as others have said, sick leave starts to go up, even with the bullying tactics now being employed.
