Walk Sequencing Trials

Post by 24601 »

Hi

Welcome back

We've been operating walk sequencing machines on trial for the last 2 years.

We've now been told that our jobs were only temporary and we have to reapply and have an interview.

Has this happened in the other trial offices like London,Bath and Scotland for example ?

There was a rumour 2 years ago that they were going to get Managers to do the same thing but it never happened. I hope it pans out the same way for you lot. By the way have you checked out your original contract to see what it states, it may be worth checking with Citizens Advice to see there are loopholes or even if they are breaking your original contract.

Our jobs with Royal Fail are Ok (!!) it's just that we have to reapply for our positions on nights as Walk Sequencing Machine Operators. Is this happening in West Brom or London ?

They also plan to bring delivery staff in an hour later (last letter on town 3pm and rural 4pm) and change our hours to midnight - 10 am

Does the National Union know this as this is something that will create a lot of bad feeling if it goes national.

Apparently they're in talks with the union about this right now and according to our DIM a national agreement is close.

I really am desparate to hear from just one other Walk Sequencing trial office as this issue is now very critical here.

we have had problems with the staffing of our sequencing jobs as well but the duties are now filled. you are correct in saying that royalmail now want to change the delivery spec for the trial offices to 3pm last letter town delivery, 4pm for rurals mon-sat they tried that with us up here in scotland , after a stage 3 disagreement they backed down. but you are correct in saying that this is being talked about nationaly so looks like it just a matter of time before this comes in

Great to be in contact with someone else from a walk sequencing team.

Have you had to reapply for your jobs? We're told it's a national thing.

no. theese jobs were filled by the original applicants. the big problem we are having is the pegasus review that they are trying to bring in at the trial sites. take it that you have been told that you are getting a review based on either 3.5 hr del or 4hr del with the later finish time 3pm/4pm mon-sat, seemingly postcomm have agreed this for the sequencing test sites

Apparently the later start times have to be agreed nationally.

Because we have come to the end of the trial we have to apply for our own jobs,we've been given an 8 page application form which is actually the one they use when they interview new postman. The heading has been changed and a couple of questions regarding operating a machine has been included.it all seems to be a ploy to force us to change our times. If you don't agree to doing a 10 hour nightshift (and agree to working on beyond the finishing time in cases of heavy mail) it's bye bye nights.

I'm not sure this is connected but I saw a LTB today regarding Mail Centre Closures and it seems that things are going to kick off again. It's the usual RM ignoring the union and every agreement. Hopefully someone will be able to find the link for it.

the later start time has been agreed nationaly for the test sites, as for the end of the sequencing trial theese jobs now become A W d and should be advertised to any one who wants them on a seniortiy bases, they pulling a fast one if they are saying that there is a so called special application for them get your rep to look into this so he can put it through the IR framework.

We've been told by our DIM that the later start times for delivery is a 'sensitive issue' and word is that it has to be agreed natonally even though we are a trial office.

They want the night sequencing team to move from mid - 8 to mid - 10 (after we apply for our own jobs and suffer a humiliating interview by someone who has never operated a machine)

Complete u-turn today - the 4 regular night operators to stay (already paid night allowance) and extra jobs created for a third machine to be allocated on seniority.

Probably another u-turn coming tomorrow !!
