what is a RDC
I did my first forum reply today and I think i am the only one from a RDC i don't think we are safe in RDCs.........we do the balk mail same call it junk mail but at the end of the day its all part of royal mail.....and we should not allow TNT AND DHL to take any part of our jobs on this web site I saw ads for BUSINESS POST UK an DX these are the ones which are taking our business from us ....if they can take the work from one end of the mail whats stopping them from taking more!

I also work in an RDC mate and our jobs are under a lot of threat from competition. Bulk mail contracts are exactly what the likes of TNT, DHL, UK Mail etc are after. Every item of mail that is lost to downstream access is an item that no longer passes through the RDC network, so we have less cages of work to seg (sort), less inward traffic, less cages to load onto lorries, less cages to be picked up from customers etc etc. Ultimately, this means we will have too many staff for the volumes of work we handle. So I reckon Royal Mail will be offering EVR to people in RDCs in a big way, to reduce surplus staff and to cut costs. Have you had any managers at your place tell you what effect all these strings will have on us in the RDC network ? We haven't had any info from the management or from the CWU on what impact these plans will have on us ! But one of my colleagues received a letter yesterday, asking if he would be interested in EVR, with a return address for more specific info on his entitlement, should he be interested. This on the very day that the ballot result was announced... co-incidence ? I don't think so !
For delivery guys, the volume of mail they take out is not in itself affected by competition - it just means that a greater percentage of the letters in their bag bear non-Royal Mail logos, so their jobs are not made any less secure than they were before. The biggest threat to their jobs comes from Leighton and Crozier's ill-conceived plans for the future of Royal Mail, and from the general fall in mail volumes. If our competitors ever start providing an end-to-end service, and doing their own deliveries, then we're all in the sh!t. But as other posters on here have said, setting up a rival delivery network has so far proved a step that our competitors don't seem too willing to take.

WE CANT WIN BACK DSA AND NOT MODERNISE LETS GET REAL HERE!!!
Im not sure RM can compete with DSA in its current position, thats why the 1.2billion is needed to modernise, people want us to win back mail in one breath then in the same breath they are against modernisation, cant have it both ways!!!
Dsa carriers charge a company 17p and then pay us 13p for each item of DSA to deliver it, royal mail CANNOT beat 17p as an offer to collect and deliver an item of mail in its current position (ie lack of advanced machinery) so ive been told
Closest thing we offer so far is cleanmail, where a customer sends in its mail as normal then depending on the read rate as it goes through the machines we give them a % discount for it being machineable. Works out some customers pay 18.5p ish, still not as cheap as going to a DSA carrier . Thats why we have lost nearly 50% of our bulk mailers to DSA so far, its rising EVERY week btw.

Nothing to do with the machies MAD it's because we are not allowed to charge less, which has come from the regulator.
Put us on an even keel and we'll kill the competition.
Modernasition:Maybe they do need it at MC's (Can any other MC guys confirm) but it's the way they want to modernise with their slash and burn approach.
Obviously the 2 go together, better machines, less staff, less costs, because of the amount we can charge is not competitive enough.
But at the end of the day if we have just one big machine and one bloke running it for the whole lot of mail we get in the country.
We still can't charge less, not for the time being anyway.
And when the changes are made, less staff in the business, regulator relaxes the prices we can charge,we undercut EVERYBODY.
MASSIVE PROFITS FOR...........

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

In my view..
IMPS DONT WORK!!!! That is a all in one piece of MECH that is so big it needs a football pitch to house it. Well big anyway and as POSTMAN says One bit breaks n its redundant.. The pipe line from CFC, MTT,LSM. DISPATCH is the best in my view .. The only thing we had in EDO before we moved to ELMC Bromley by bowlocks Is the coding vcs... The thing i think is important is the mail quality that comes from Big firms in the past RM were to scared to ask for the work to be handled in ways we could excelerate the work... meter work mixed with stamps where there are meter pouches for firms... mixed up and takes time to sort.. The amount of outsized funny shaped letters is astounding.. Non MECH work will always be here dont worry, buy the look at some of the bulk postings there is... Mech is in need of a update but to enhance not take away jobs in the scale RM say... We do the job lets get our voice heard...
OUT
WE HAD A OLD WORN OUT CFC THAT WAS IN STORAGE FOR 10 YEARS AND PUT IN A BRAND NEW MULTI MILLION POUND OFFICE!!!
RM SCRIMPING AND SCRAPING WHEN THE RIVAL FIRMS WERE NOT EVEN A THOUGHT!!!! THATS WHERE RM FAILED US THE PEOPLE THE WORKERS AND THE COUNTRY!!!

the first point i was making was this web site was putting on ads for DX and UK mail these are the ones which can take 20% of our work and charge 10% less then RM which we in RDCs see more of the big customer going to DHL TNT DX UKMAIL ............THESE campanies are the ones taking the profit ............at the end of the day like it or not, bulk mail looks after all RM staff. we in RDCs will be the first to go Then what next ? no more drivers because the work goes straight to the MLOs no more customer collection| next! more cut backs to get same profit................part time posties! sorry to sound like an old lady but we in RDCs do see more ( are there any other OPGs from RDCs or am i the last one)
