Bit of a leap of faith to put your trust in the figures of an enterprise that somehow manages to get away with producing two completely conflicting sets of accounts for the same year.
One of which the independent auditors refuse to sign off as compliant or accurate and yet is still accepted by the govt. regulator

That's just what I thought too.... :left:

What's "fishy" about turnover being up but volumes being down?
There's been changes to the pricing structures recently. There's always a simple answer, but why look for that when there's bound to be another conspiracy theory in there somewhere.
Some of you must lead dull lives when there's a constant need for such fantasies....

Anybody else do two sets of materially different accounts for the same year? If so, just curious ,Why?

Re volumes:
The word "volume" is the problem here, it's often used in the sense of "number of items" when it comes to counting letters. If there are fewer items posted, mail "volume" is said to go down, even if the remaing items are in fact generally larger and heavier than before so each postie's weight load has grown. But RM is now charging more for the larger and heavier items.... so the income from these has gone up.

Re accounts:
I used to do three sets of accounts when I had a very small business. One for me, with all income and expenditure so I'd know what profit I'd really made, one for the Inland Revenue with all income and their allowed expenses (I paid tax on more profit than I'd really made but I had to comply with their rules) and one for the local council, who allowed no expenses at all when deciding that I could (or maybe could not) have a few pence housing benefit per week. One of the reasons I gave up that business was that I was spending more time doing accounts than earning money... RM may have a similar problem...

And did any of your auditors put in a disclaimer stating that they could" not guarantee the accuracy of the accounts" (para) and that they did not "represent a fair and accurate appraisal of the company's trading position", and that the accounting methods used did not comply with the internationally recognised standards of accountancy practice? Oh and did you employ 200,000 people and was your sole shareholder HM gov.? Yeah all in all probably the same thing, local rates it'll crucify RM

But still you dont say it for yourself first brother! You come out with the same old you are wrong i am so smart and right, yet dont own an original thought that you can put down here on RMC either first or to hold up the RM position and line you take every time why is that? Can i ask you why you are so sure that the PRO Goverment RM stance you take on every issue is the right one? Looking at most of your posts they seem to be of a critial nature of other posters rather than costructive in any form, you seem to enjoy being devils advocate (But doing a very poor job of it!) Now here on RMC there are more than a few i dont agree with but most all of them come from a position of true conviction and are worthy of respect if not agreement from us all, But we have a few that seem to delight in being controversial but without risking danger and or ridicule to themselves so heres an idea big boy put YOUR beliefs here under your own name and topic and invite all to debate with you if you dare but in truth most people wont bother to even read the said posts it will only make them YAWN and find something more interesting instead like oh i dont know washing up or something as banal as that.

If there was no difference of opinion or controversy, we'd all end up talking about the same thing - not really much of a 'forum' then. T-man is forthright in his postings, any criticism of other posters is in response to the usual raspberry blowing he gets for making his point, and, like you, he is entitled to put forward his views. If his intention was to simply get your back up (and I don't see any evidence of that) then yes I could see your point of view, but he remains amongst a handful of RMC members that can cut through the hype and get to the point and I include viewpoints from members on both sides of the imaginary divide when I say that. Both Norbert and Belial can do that too. It should not be assumed that because someone has a different viewpoint that they are wrong.

Generally, those out of their depth, sink to member groupings or expletives because they can't think of anything else to say. RMC has always been like that - the reason why Hayes doesn't take it seriously. I'm often accused of being 'Old Street' but thats simply shortsightedness on their part and is water off a ducks back to me. Plenty I don't like about the way RM is run and plenty I don't like about the union, the EC and even some customers. 'Truth' is recognising that there is an element of 'truth' in most points of view.

There are about five posters on here that make threads way more exciting than the usual "I don't like my RM workboots" stuff and without them, it simply wouldn't be worth visiting at all.

More of the same.
Take this on-going mail volumes as a case in point.
My stance is I KNOW the posted mail volumes are correct as they come directly from AI, and if that wasn't accurate then the AI system of processing and coding wouldn't work, and we'd all be in the poop. I KNOW where the data is, and I KNOW how to access it as do many more teams in the country. There is NO MCM or his little clerk upping the figures for throughputs in his MC for whatever reason. Gordon Brown, Leighton or Crozier have no input (or indeed, reason) to fiddle the figures. They're automatically generated by the AI system, and all of the above has been written time and time and time again as you're doubtless aware if you've been rereading my posts.

So, what's the endless retorts and rebuttals for the above?
You're wrong 'cos my bags heavier.
You're wrong 'cos I get back later.
My DOM is a liar.
Gordon Brown etc are fiddling the figures
Stats can say whatever you want them to..
You're an agent of RM.
You don't know what you're talking about.
You're a bully.
PCs can be fiddled.
And the prize for both the most bizzare and the most ludicrous goes to- "You're a manager".
Sad, puerile and ill-conceived, the lot of them.

Therefore, far from me "putting my case forward blah blah blah", how about the posters who in reality have no substantial reason to disbelieve volumes are falling (other than they heard it in the canteen/RMC and it sounded good) put THEIR case forward as to why they think RM is wrong in it's assertion of falling volumes?
The silly bitching and back-biting isn't good enough anymore.
You first Linkinpark; give me reasons why volumes aren't really falling and why RM and many of it's employees are allegedly publishing false figures?

Will you please stop baiting each other, everyone. This is a discussion forum not a name calling gang on a school playground.

If you cant discuss without belittling others opinions then please don't post. People claim that RMC is a bunch of Yahooos and this is what make them think so.

Suggestions

Discuss don't denigrate.

If you want proven facts from one side then please provide proof from your side of the argument.

If you disagree with someone's post then discuss it like adults rather than all this sleeping and trousers comments. They are not helping either side of the argument and are ruining the threads for others.

It has nothing to do with Fluff (and apologies to Freeman) or right or wrong. Its just a fact that mail volume and revenue is down the world over. Period. Thats why even the States are retiring postal workers. Business is declining. What bit of that is hard to understand?
