Offices work differently from each other in many ways
I personally think the finish time should be end of shift, not 20 mins early, because people take the mick and are heading back to the office an hour before finishing time.

What if you have a legacy and new start paired together and the legacy decides to take his extra 20 minute entitlement at the end of the shift
What happens to the new start
What does he do still having 20 minutes left of his duty?

Could you empathise with those that do?Barnacle wrote: ↑Yesterday, 20:17No.Perseus wrote: ↑Yesterday, 20:14Genuine question, do you have a near 5pm finish time?Barnacle wrote: ↑Yesterday, 19:58Taking the break at the end of the shift, has to be locally agreed because of SISO. Regarding people heading back to office early, that happens in offices that take their breaks either in full or split, or half at end.
As has been said on this thread already, there are huge variances in how offices run, with many still on 4 hour deliveries (up from 3.5 hour) and others pushed to well over 5 hours, often closer to 6.

I’m not sure what difference that makes? The finish time is when you are paid until. I work in an office that penalises some for signing out early and not others. It causes massive resentment so I would prefer it if everyone had to sign out at finishing time, no arguments.Perseus wrote: ↑Yesterday, 20:30Could you empathise with those that do?Barnacle wrote: ↑Yesterday, 20:17No.Perseus wrote: ↑Yesterday, 20:14Genuine question, do you have a near 5pm finish time?Barnacle wrote: ↑Yesterday, 19:58Taking the break at the end of the shift, has to be locally agreed because of SISO. We have NEVER been allowed to take half of our meal relief at the end of the shift, and it's a fair bet that we are currently amongst the latest finishing DOs in the entire country. 5.15pm on our latest day (Wednesday) and 4.20pm on a Saturday.

The new starts begin their day starting 40 minutes earlier-unpaid on IP- to enable them to finish at the same time as legacy. I’m legacy but find it very unfair.

The simple answer is that the new start finishes at the same time, as is currently happening in my office.
They were finishing 20 mins later, but that seemed pointless as they couldn't deliver anything extra, but coming in 20 mins early meant they could be of more use.

You are given 40 mins by royal mail because of fatigue (in mail centres there is an extra 20 mins because of fatigue.
(There is actually a formula calculation for this based on long periods of standing / heavy lifting etc)
Hundreds of people bleating on robin and courier checker at DM26 causing fatigue whist pulling a blag with the rest break needs to be flagged up to the powers that be before they are hoodwinked by people who want to get a 20 min flyer and take off early.
It is just something that needs to be “flushed out” into the open.

So you see…….
You could be talking to someone making out they are in distress with DM26 and knackered with fatigue…….
But then you find out he wasn’t taking the prescribed rest break during the working day and was seen coming back early & taking off 20mins early……
Yet he was going round banging on about being fatigued on DM26……..& claiming it is a disaster……..
I think this needs to be highlighted.

We've always been entitled to 40 mins breaks it's nothing to do with "fatigue" it's just our entitlement. Stop trying to make an issue when there clearly isn't one, as whenever I have my break I'm not walking or pulling a blag(sic) for that 20 mins2chorizon wrote: ↑Yesterday, 22:21You are given 40 mins by royal mail because of fatigue (in mail centres there is an extra 20 mins because of fatigue.

People are not taking the rest break “during the shift” is the problem, because they are then making claims of being fatigued.TopperGas wrote: ↑Yesterday, 22:44We've always been entitled to 40 mins breaks it's nothing to do with "fatigue" it's just our entitlement. If someone leaves 20 mins early using half their rest break they are using that time to do other things like commute home or pick the kids up from school etc they are not taking a rest break.
40 mins of rest during the shift should be sufficient to relieve fatigue. (or less time or more time depending on the length of the shift)
Fed up of reading “alarmist” posts on “Royal mail on brink of collapse” “DM26 is disater and causing fatigue” etc when i know the above rest break stunt is being pulled.
Let’s put the house in order first before making an objective assessment of fatigue levels due to the implementation of the DM26.
This is my point ^

What - so you're saying if a postie takes the full 40mins as opposed to only 20 part way through the duty then they'll be fine, no issues with fatigue ?2chorizon wrote: ↑Yesterday, 23:57People are not taking the rest break “during the shift” is the problem, because they are then making claims of being fatigued.TopperGas wrote: ↑Yesterday, 22:44We've always been entitled to 40 mins breaks it's nothing to do with "fatigue" it's just our entitlement. It depends on the validity of this statement. Breaks vary in numerous ways. Some are longer than 40 minutes. Others are shorter. Some offices split the break. Others have a continuous one. Pre-22 workers have a different entitlement to post-22 workers. Pre-22 workers working their day off have no entitlement to a break. Its fair to say the whole thing is a mess.
