General Election
Don’t know whether there’s even in an ounce of truth in it but according to one of the papers the conservatives are on an election footing as they feel the PM may call a pre Christmas snap election.
Jeez how the hell would RM deal with it if that actually happened? Office is rammed full of weeks of undelivered mail, D2D piling up untouched, no staff, new starters coming & going, we are on the point of grinding to a halt. I’m sure that there’s many like this up and down the country so god forbid polling cards and election material starts pouring in!!!

Re: General Election
Would RM legally be required to prioritise any party/election material over everything else?

Re: General Election
I don't think so. They'd be legally obliged to deliver election material within the specified time frame for that mail, but that's true of all mail and I don't think the law says that election material 'trumps' other items.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑Yesterday, 10:01Would RM legally be required to prioritise any party/election material over everything else?
However, perhaps the question should be 'Would RM prioritise party/election material over everything else?'. And here I think the answer is an emphatic 'yes'. The scandal created by widespread failed election deliveries would be huge. MPs would not stand for it. I think RM would likely bear the pain of failing even Tracked to ensure they didn't screw up an election.

Re: General Election
Probably spot on, they'd insist on us concentrating on the polling cards/the pointless polling cards that inform you that your postal vote will be arriving shortly in the post/all the accompanying"d2d" type crap.DGH wrote: ↑Yesterday, 12:55I don't think so. Meanwhile if it became apparent we couldn't cope with the rest of the work they'd spunk an absolute fortune on getting it delivered at a loss followed by an announcement on Robin slapping all the DO managers on the back for an excellent job done

Re: General Election
The biggest problem RM would face if there was an election would be constituency results being called null & void if it was proven that people hadn’t received their literature from candidates at the necessary time. These leaflets normally have a strict start & finish date on them to coincide with said candidates other campaigning methods and also not to land on the door mat when a rival launches their leaflet.
In a close run constituency then candidates would be looking to see that all their propaganda had reached everyone in the time it was supposed to otherwise they’ll be pointing to that as a reason they didn’t win and would be requesting a re run. Could be highly embarrassing for RM if this scenario played out across numerous constituencies over the country.

It's worth over £40m for RM.

Re: General Election
I think you'd see an increase in the payments for all election material, not just the unfranked/stamped stuff, a lot of late finishes, and a lot of clear(ish) frames.
Money talks.

Re: General Election
Hopefully the poll cards would come through in envelopes, then we could sequence them along with the rest of the mech mail. Would that make much of a difference in DOs?

Re: General Election
Then I guess you won't be doing any election material
I suppose it's technically possible to not work over your finish time doing paid election material, but you need to be super organised with the prepping of it. For a lot of staff though, the money is too good to turn down, and if you time it right (or lucky) you can earn several hundred £ for not too many hours work.

Re: General Election
Iirc the postal voting packs get sequenced as they are addressed in envelopes, the regular polling cards however arrive "walk sorted" I'm assuming this is how they are presented to royal mail by the printers as they arrive numbered starting at number 1,2,3,4 and so on, a bit tedious and not as easy as sequenced but obviously a lot less time consuming than if they appeared totally random on IPSSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑Yesterday, 17:27Hopefully the poll cards would come through in envelopes, then we could sequence them along with the rest of the mech mail. Re: General Election
One election the poll cards were in envelopes, so we sequenced them. RM want to increase the amount of mail that we put through the machines so if the poll cards arrive as regular cards there's probably a fair chance that we'll be made to put them through the CSS.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑Yesterday, 19:29Iirc the postal voting packs get sequenced as they are addressed in envelopes, the regular polling cards however arrive "walk sorted" I'm assuming this is how they are presented to royal mail by the printers as they arrive numbered starting at number 1,2,3,4 and so on, a bit tedious and not as easy as sequenced but obviously a lot less time consuming than if they appeared totally random on IPSSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑Yesterday, 17:27Hopefully the poll cards would come through in envelopes, then we could sequence them along with the rest of the mech mail.
