Having to work till 9pm during peak

My office has got a letter informing us all we may have to work from 1pm to 9pm starting from November.

Anyone else got this?

At least our managers agree that working in the dark is counterproductive.
And a torch wont help you find the correct house while driving past houses with no lights on their house number/name!

Absolutely not. I realised when being out till 5PM sixteen Christmases ago that nothing short of a floodlight was going to allow me to maintain the same pace as in daylight. How can you conduct a proper risk analysis entering an address when you can't see half the potential hazards? You necessarily slow down.

The main issue with working late at night is customers reluctance to answer the door and you can't really leave parcel anywhere but enclosed porches. The advantage for RM is that they don't have to purchase/hire extra vans for the later shifts.

Aren't some of the new contracts very vague, you agree to work for RM for a set amount of hours per week and it's up to them when they want you to work.

As has been posted previously RM won't want vans sitting idle in the yard when they could be being used, I personally think there's a good possibility of this happening in some areas

I believe the new contracts had it specifically stated that the worker can be requested to work from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday to Sunday.
As your manager is giving you sufficient notice of these changing shift hours it is unfortunately legal and adheres to employment law and your employment contract.

I believe this will be mainly for people who are doing DPR duties. It will allow more parcels to get through the network and into the delivery depots if shifts are set later in peak period. It also gives time for vans to be back from duties that can be utilised rather than hiring more hire vehicles.

The staff on the post 2022 contract at my office have also received this letter. Unfortunately the contract does say that anyone on the new contract can be asked to work any hours between 6am and 10pm Monday to Sunday. Sadly many of them didn't read the contract so this has come as a bit of a surprise.
