Why so few perm staff uplifted ?

Post by Agencyoap »

Sorry I’m confused - it says nearly 4000 roles have been uplifted from PT - FT - but only 449 of these are permanent staff ?
So are the temporary staff agency or temp contracts who may not be retained
And why so few perm staff uplifted
Does this explain why so many in our DO haven’t been offered or accepted ?
It’s a genuine question

The CWU was and is fully aware that increases would be temporary. In fact during the data verification it came to light that thousands of CWU members who thought they were on permanent contracts were in fact on temporary variations. These variations were years old.

3500 of them ?

After 4 years do these not become perm by law ?

Are you saying all the temp uplifts were on old temp contracts
If so then are they not now perm

In reply to the OP it's the actual hours being increased to FT which is temporary, not temporary staff being updated to FT hours. Why it's only a temporary move can only be explained by the CWU, as unless DM26 is ever withdrawn, or something else replaces it, then it looks likely the moves to FT hours will last indefinitely.

I seem to have my hours increased to FT on the Peoples App/Payslip but had no other indication my hours have been increased.

The legality of the increase and it's permanence depends on what the contract says. If the contract or any amendment to it contains a clause saying it is temporary then it's temporary.

Sounds like those walks that are getting added by taking bits off other walks to form them and then lapsing them.

Ok - when I was in business, temp/fixed term of say 6 months, if continued without renewing each period, would be considered permanent after 4 years unless prior agreed collective agreement by say unions - in which case the unions would have known about it !
But maybe this has changed since then
Still seems odd that some 80% of uplifts are temp ?
Any Hoe

I've not received a contract I just noticed my hours have increased to 37 hours on my payslip, I wasn't even told I didn't need to continue logging my daily OT showing the difference between PT & FT once DM26 started.

Simple question - have employees been told in writing that their hours are permanent or has a manager offered an employee a temporary increase in their hours/contract verbally?

Permanent increases in hours and temporary contractual variations are not the same thing.

Spot on. They aren't. Workers report that they have received temporary variations in writing.

Because as of next year & the possibility of DM27 coming in & further cuts being made it’s easier to stop/reduce a temporary contract.

Sadly that's the way RM has always worked, it seems you have to work for RM for a decade before you are even considered for a permanent FT contract, it's almost like a very long trial period.

That doesn't help staff looking for mortgages etc, what are we supposed to now tick on the application forms that we work part time or full time?

The CWU are complicit.

Had a part time uplift from 30 to 34 hours but working same hours as a full timer on 37 hours, but because of unpaid meal breaks we only get paid 34hrs. So am I full time or part time?
