As we gear up for Peak 2026, we’ll need every available york in the network.
Last Peak showed just how important yorks are. When they aren’t where they need to be, operations slow down, mail gets delayed, and it becomes harder for everyone to do their job.
Put simply: if a york stops, mail stops.
That's why we're introducing 60,000 new MK2 A-Frames across the business.
Why are we doing this?
Tens of thousands of yorks are currently used in delivery offices for storage, bullrings, frame areas and set-up activities.
By replacing these with MK2 A-Frames, we can free up these yorks so they're available for their primary purpose: moving mail through the network.
The aim is simple. A-Frames stay in the delivery office. Yorks go back into the network as soon as they're empty.
In a nutshell: A-frames stay, yorks away.
As parcel volumes continue to grow, making the best use of our equipment has never been more important. We are pleased to have agreed this approach and have reviewed the health and safety elements of deployment with the CWU. You can read the joint statement here.

The MK2 A-Frame has a footprint very similar to a york, so it can fit into most existing layouts with little change.
It can be used for:
Bullrings
Between frame areas
Indoor set-up locations
Staging and storage areas
DPR operations

It can also hold around 5% more volume than a york.

Unless the design of them has changed since the ones we had forced on us a few years ago, whoever wrote what you quoted is talking out their arse. They are NOT ALLOWED to be loaded at all when moved, so their use for:
Internal movement of mail
Vehicle loading and unloading

They don't have a full height door, so the load can't be secured for movement, so they still can't be moved when loaded. Any that appear in our MC will be dumped in the yard out of the way as they'll be of no use to us.

They don't have a full height door, so the load can't be secured for movement, so they still can't be moved when loaded. Any that appear in our MC will be dumped in the yard out of the way as they'll be of no use to us.
They won't be much use in a delivery office either, no use for the parcel bullring as they get wheeled round to the delivery frames for sorting to the duty then out to the van with trays of mail/oversized etc plus unless they have a sleeve the smaller items will fall out anyway.
I've had a novel idea why not simply get more Yorks - oh of course these are an unfit for purpose cheaper version, it's the royal mail way.

They won't be much use in a delivery office either, no use for the parcel bullring as they get wheeled round to the delivery frames for sorting to the duty then out to the van with trays of mail/oversized etc plus unless they have a sleeve the smaller items will fall out anyway.
I've had a novel idea why not simply get more Yorks - oh of course these are an unfit for purpose cheaper version, it's the royal mail way.
And replace all the original yorks. If they have correx sleeves and the sleeve has its door intact then you can't load it properly with trays, it's either that or rip the door off.
We've got "bad yorks" stored all over the place where the trio of RFID tags are knackered. Not all shifts can fix them atm as they have to be fixed under a special scanner. Once autumn pressure kicks in chances are the person assigned to fix them will be moved elsewhere everyday. We'll end up shipping them out somewhere to be fixed or they'll just get put back into service no matter what the system says.
Workers report that this equipment really isn't suitable for the job. Rear steering, large gaps between the bars, sides not sitting secure on the base, items falling through the gaps, increased time in using them, too tall to see over, too large for the working environment. Compared to a self levelling red sleeved York the operation time required to use them is significantly longer.

Unfortunately the majority of red sleeves were binned two years ago in a stroke of brilliant foresight to make way for the infinitely annoying and mostly broken corexes. All because their SuperHub wunderwaffe sorting machines couldn't deal with a self-levelling container. Having new ones manufactured all over again (by Michael Linnell & Co, I believe), in addition to constantly repairing corexes, would be pissing more money away. Some of the tiny packets are sent in sacks to stop them falling through the bottom of the yorks.
Bring back the DBFs for small packets and use the remaining red sleeves for sorting large packets. They won't let us go back to that, though, because they are in some kind of suicide pact with whoever came up with the bullring concept.
