LTB 238/26 – Update on DM26
I know Postman has posted this on the quieter Union LTB board but I think it'll get more views/discussion here on 'Blue Shirts':

114+ units out of 320 having operational issues affecting clearance is diabolical. Who is managing this... oh, it's the CWU and Royal Mail who can't seem to make anything work. Use some basic logic and you might be able to work it out eventually.
The four most commonly reported issues are:
POD-related concerns, including excessive workloads and duties that are not currently achievable.
No shiz Sherlock - could you not foresee that?
Insufficient staffing levels and resource shortages.
Weren't you supposed to make sure all offices were resourced before going ahead?
Sickness absence and day-to-day operational pressures.
Why don't we have agency workers covering sickness? we are supposed to be meeting reduced Ofcom targets. Half of duties are now essentially 2 days' mail.... you cannot allow that work to pile up the next day and so on...

"POD-related concerns, including excessive workloads and duties that are not currently achievable."
People called this out right on the first day DM26 was announced, that the 'pods' and in particular those that are derived from 2x2 shared van duties would be bearing the brunt of DM26. I'm not in the least bit surprised about them going down this route of targeted efficiency seeking - they've been picking on the shared vans for over a decade now - but to do it in the face of other duties becoming ridiculously easier in the form of single duties doing 50/50 and a little bit (often none) extra.
For other pods, including HCT ones, they are finding that overnight they are doing an extra 90 minutes worth of delivery each day. Regardless of the fact that they maybe had the capacity to do more in the past, that sudden increase in walking is a killer for anybody.

We've been here before with temporary contracts and the CWU has form. It was discovered recently that thousands of CWU members were on temporary contracts where there had been uplifts in hours. The CWU have allowed temporary uplifts to happen for years. The very idea that the latest temporary uplifts will be converted into permanent uplifts is not supported by the CWU's own evidence.

Not one mention of the issue of "fatigue" in the CWU update document. They have gone very quiet on this, but made a big issue of this when trying to sell the agreement to the membership for the vote. That just seems to have been brushed under the carpet. I can't believe that increased fatigue through much greater walking distances and repeated climbing in and out of a van has not been raised as an issue, despite the assurances that DM26 would reduce fatigue.

It's 114 out of 233 as we don't have data for the rest. So about half are going badly.norris9 wrote: ↑Yesterday, 15:21114+ units out of 320 having operational issues affecting clearance is diabolical. exactly I have kicked of numerous times I have only been here 10 years but I have a good idea how things work and town jobs at my office are already getting a lot more parcel volumes than most of the rural rounds, also now Royal Mail have much higher parcel volumes so being in a shared van is more difficult as you have 2 frames of parcels to deal with and under this dom 26 you will be dipping into 4, they have effectively created a 2 tier workforce under this, the 50/50 staff can't believe there luck, absolute spit in the face to all the town workers in my unit.Perseus wrote: ↑Yesterday, 16:36"POD-related concerns, including excessive workloads and duties that are not currently achievable."

Re: LTB 238/26 – Update on DM26
It was always going to be too complicated to work with Pods. Too many age factors and the difference in how people work etc. The mail is going to ramp up over the next 5-6 weeks as well.
I still feel the answer to make these 1 in 4 job cuts was to simply add 25% extra calls on every delivery and spit them 50/50. Run it for 6 weeks and adjust the heavier walks with the easier ones. No idea why RM had to make it so complicated. Classic case of college boys and girls who have never done a walk.

Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

The CWU are happy to talk about traffic volumes but not call rates. The number of calls and the time needed have not decreased. The work has increased for everyone and it's only august. We all know the traffic is going to increase further.
