A Doncaster postman dubbed the UK’s happiest and who sings as he delivers is to partially stay on his round after a campaign.

Upset locals rallied around postie Shane Powell when they heard that he was being removed from his Stainforth route and transferred to another area.

A petition with more than 300 names was handed in a bid to keep him.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We know how much people value their local posties and the important role they play in the communities they serve.

“As part of changes to the way deliveries are organised in Doncaster, Shane will be moving to a new round.

“However, he will continue to work in the Stainforth area for the majority of his new round.

“We understand that customers can build strong relationships with their regular posties over many years, and we recognise how highly Shane is regarded by the local community.”
