CURRENTLY TRIALLING DM26 HCT’s

Post by monkeybuisness »

Just done week 1 of trialling DM26 on the HCT duties at our office and I have to say carving my skin off with a rusty implement and pouring vinegar over my flesh I’ve previously carved off would seem more appealing. Obviously I can’t say too much to give the game away but currently I’m doing approximately 60 % of the work load I’m expected to do under this new delivery method and I’m averaging between 9-11 miles a day. Now I know people will say that’s nothing and I do longer but trust me it’s a killer.
When I’ve tried to put input about the new system aswell as my other colleagues who are struggling immensely we’re all met with a wall of “ it will happen “
I get and I understand just come in and do your hours then go home but trust me this is a delivery designed to get people to quit.
Ps.. I don’t want to give much away but I’ve got nearly 30 years in the business and this is the true story.

Are you doing 60% because of the volume of mail created by only doing 2c every other day and so the number of delivery points with mail increases?

We are doing obviously a different format to shared vans but still based on heavy & light days ( even though the mail is still coming in as before, not through the algorithm)
Day 1 : your own duty tracked / first class ( half of delivery )
: rest of delivery everything goes ( other half )
: 1/3 dissolved duty ( everything goes )
: half of all D2D’s to be thrown in
Day 2 : reverse of your duty you did day before
: 1/3 dissolved duty ( everything goes )
: finish D2D’s

Saturday : All tracked and first class

So you are doing it as DM26- the spec of it - except for on the 1/3 of the lapsed duty. You are taking all of that out every day except Saturday?

No wonder that is hard going for a HCT.

Shouldn’t you be doing heavy/light on the part from the other duty too?

At a guess they are using more HCT's than vans and are doing a "version" of DM26 to fit their office

Yes we are doing heavy and light days in theory but the mail isn’t coming in as heavy / light, it still comes in normally the algorithms hasn’t started yet which begs the question in my eyes if the fundamental part of the delivery ( heavy / light ) can’t be done what is the point of trialling it. Basically from day 1 it’s flawed so is a complete waste of time and obviously hasn’t a chance in hell of working.

We’ve questioned this numerous times and have been instructed it is all to go.

They are wrong. You are taking too much out. That needs to be amended.

The algorithm has started for some DOs, locally the smaller ones so far. The people who write the sort plans are probably waiting for confirmation that your DO has made all the required changes and that them changes have been made in Route Planner. When the sort plans get written they are based on the data in Route Planner.

Why has the CWU agreed to it?

So your basically having to walk a 1⅓ of the existing duties whilst doing a full delivery for over ¾'s of the duties, no wonder it's not working? Was a full duty manageable mid week previously as, if not, then you've no chance of completing now?

I thought hct duties were still meant to be every day and all items ? Why tf would you have a hct doing heavy and light ? You’re walking way too far without being very productive.

HCT's are meant to be doing 50/50.

They take everything for half of their duty and the other half only tracked and 1st class.

Then it is up to management how the remainder of your delivery time is spent. Some offices are dividing another HCT duty up and dividing it between the other HCT duties. For example dividing it between three HCT duties so you each take a third.

Others are scrapping HCT's all together and making them van shares.

Others are giving them tracked and 1st from duties that are nearby their duties as relief.

The only thing that is concrete is that if you are still on a HCT you should only be doing 50/50. With later finish times and not having to walk up every garden path it gives you more time to do more workload.
