Phoning in sick.

Post by simply_the_best »

Rangers are playing in the UEFA cup final next week, The dim has said that anyone phoning in sick next week will get a late afternoon visit from him, can your employer legally do this?

I got this from another website...

If you phone in sick on Tuesday, or even Monday and dont return till say Friday with a self certified note that you had "flu symptoms" there is nothing they can do about it. Might look suspicious but according to Public service union procedures your employer cannot contact you whilst you are off ill. It contravenes the Absence monitoring procedures agreed between unions and management.

I'm not intending to take the time off but when he came out with his crap it really pissed me off :evil/mad

I think your DOM is being pro-active. He's letting you all know that he's aware that some might be inclined to pull a sickie. It might be an empty threat, but you never know if he'll do it, which is what he wants. RM think they are a law unto themselves, so whether it's been agreed with the union or not, they'll do what they want.

Never thought I'd ever say this (being a Celtic fan), but good luck to the 'gers, Oooh I feel all funny now, I'm going to lie down.

Who is your manager to tell you where to be when you are sick? All you are obliged to do is make sure you are contactable. He has no leg to stand on if he thinks he can get someone in trouble for not being at home for a one off visit whilst sick. Sick people need to go to the doctors, walk-in centres, shops for medication...

All you have to do is ask a Celtic friend who is not working on the day, to do you a favour and you can return the favour in future ie if Celtic play AC Milan in London for example or he need to attend his cousin wedding.

I think its a very grey area - they can claim duty of care when visiting people who have claimed sick and we can claim harassment if its a legitimate case. I think in either case you or they would have to have a cast iron case if it ever went to ET.

My advice to anyone who wants to claim sick the day after if its not genuine, is to bite the bullet and work with a hangover the next morning. I have done it and its not pleasant but it is doable for 1 day. Good luck Rangers Image

Your Ladies team though are easily the best in the country. Perhaps you'd better switch your alliance to them

You have lost me a bit there, this is the first time he's EVER threatened a home visit yet it's only for next week.
