Re: Leaving
Harder workloads, longer deliveries, now finishing late on in dark winters and out longer in the heat ( which with climate changes is here to stay) . No work life balance. Older postys will be done, and younger will be done sooner. Thanks mr ward.

Re: Leaving
The problem is now: they do! Well the posties on the post 22 contract.
If a postie on the older terms says it you can be dubious.
If a postie on the newer terms says it it turns out to be true!

Re: Leaving
Our DO is now losing more legacy contract staff than new contracts. Pretty soon all the staff over 55 will have gone, I've only done around 5 years but will soon be in the middle of long serving staff table!!

Re: Leaving
Well what genius to force people to take a pension 7 years
Before state pension age. If anything that'll probably will lose more legacy staff than anything. Not that RM will be bothered. Not enough to retire on but enough to think about looking for another less stressful job or pack in overtime altogether. Most I know who get their NRA60 continue to work for RM

Re: Leaving
We have people who have only ever driven solo on semi rural routes expected to go into a pod where they are going to be walking for 2.5 hours then doing 1C and parcels for 2.5 hours. I'd be surprised if they make it to the fabled 're pick' after 4 weeks.

Re: Leaving
If an up to date seniority list ever gets printed out again in our office, the people who were just in the door when it was last put up over four years ago are now sitting mid way up it - a position that, when they started, required 20-25 years service. They need to introduce more service award levels.
I suspect staff in the 20-25 year range are going to be hollowed out again with DM26, as they were with the strikes. The top end of seniority on the 50/50 walks are just waiting to get to pension age and the bottom end churns as usual. Right in the middle is where the frustration builds at the thought of another two working decades of faster and stupider change. I have to say it over and over again: all I want is what the people before me got.
The machine stops.

Unfortunately you aren't getting it.
Thats exactly what the younger generations think when they are compounded with extortionate rents, ridiculous house prices,
rip off student fees, poorer pensions and little prospects.
Or when these same people are confronted with poorer pay, weekend working, no supplements and no paid breaks.
We have created a nation where all that was won is being swiftly taken away.

Re: Leaving
I think anyone who joined RM 20/25 years ago would rightly have looked at the 'old timers' of the day and thought 'I fancy a bit of that in a few years time'. The company aren't stupid, they knew that around 5 years ago they were looking at a bottleneck of tens of thousands of staff all hitting fairly long service around now and there is pretty much zero chance any legacy contract will be here in 10 years, such is the aggressiveness of the herd thinning. Just my take.

Re: Leaving
My take of it is there's zero chance RM as we know it will be around in 10 years

Re: Leaving
The job certainly isn't great, but was it ever great ?
Start on time, take my full break, do the job exactly how RM want me too.
Finish on time go home and forget about it until the next day.

Re: Leaving
18 years a postie this DM26 was the straw that broke the camels back or eventually it will break mine, so I leave in two weeks, I start a new job and can't wait, manager doesn't know yet though. Looking forward to breaking the news to them.

Re: Leaving
With the CWU all you are getting is declining work conditions for pathetic pay rises. That ain't going to change anytime soon.reddevils wrote: ↑06 Aug 2026, 18:50I have to say it over and over again: all I want is what the people before me got.7
