Re: Finish times
Our Saturday is going from 7 hours to 7.40, yet we will be doing less work than now, make it make sense?

More people off on a Saturday condenses the workload.claretandblue wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 06:25Our Saturday is going from 7 hours to 7.40, yet we will be doing less work than now, make it make sense?
The only thing not getting done on a Saturday is non incidental 2nd class mail, so you are doing about 80% of the current workload with fewer staff in. Hence the longer day.

Re: Finish times
I'm talking about doing both sides now on a Saturday, perfectly doable, we are having some taken off as well.Perseus wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 10:14More people off on a Saturday condenses the workload.claretandblue wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 06:25Our Saturday is going from 7 hours to 7.40, yet we will be doing less work than now, make it make sense?

Re: Finish times
If as an office you are taking both sides of a shared van packets and 1C plus all other packets and 1C across the whole office, singletons etc, and then all door to doors prepped for the week ahead then you’ll probably have a good argument for shortening your Saturday attendance.
I should add, I imagine you are 1 person, not 2 doing both sides on a Saturday?

Re: Finish times
Yeah, I'm talking about 1 person covering both walks, I don't know if other offices have been doing this, but to get around the overtime ban management have been giving people Saturdays off in exchange for working your day off so we end up with a skeleton staff on Saturdays so tracked and first class on 2 walks.Perseus wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 12:39If as an office you are taking both sides of a shared van packets and 1C plus all other packets and 1C across the whole office, singletons etc, and then all door to doors prepped for the week ahead then you’ll probably have a good argument for shortening your Saturday attendance.

Re: Finish times
You've probably, like many other offices, had time to bed in the 1 person covering 2 walks system (packets and 1C) so have become quite efficient at it. That's maybe why the Saturday attendance are longer, as they didn't account for that.claretandblue wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 13:44Yeah, I'm talking about 1 person covering both walks, I don't know if other offices have been doing this, but to get around the overtime ban management have been giving people Saturdays off in exchange for working your day off so we end up with a skeleton staff on Saturdays so tracked and first class on 2 walks.Perseus wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 12:39If as an office you are taking both sides of a shared van packets and 1C plus all other packets and 1C across the whole office, singletons etc, and then all door to doors prepped for the week ahead then you’ll probably have a good argument for shortening your Saturday attendance.

I know that for some staff/offices the Saturday operation will be totally alien to them and manager are going to have to come up with something to level out the workload, who knows how they will do it. All the door to doors need thrown in for the following week so that could be also why longer day on Saturday.

Re: Finish times
That's why. You're a hop, skip, and a jump from the SE parcel hub. The only other one to my knowledge is the East Midlands hub, so anywhere that isn't near those two is completely shafted.moonjaguar wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026, 21:42That's absurd in this hot weather. My office and the several others I get sent to all finish before 2pm on a Saturday. They are all in the South East.
The machine stops.

Re: Finish times
There isn't one, if there was we'd be sending packets for MCs in the SE there instead of via PRDC. The only hub we send to is MSH.FirstPost wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 19:06Where is the SE hub?Mr Rush wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 17:02That's why. You're a hop, skip, and a jump from the SE parcel hub. Re: Finish times
PRDC seems to be the only result I could find when searching for information about a second hub in the SE. Perhaps I'm confusing run of the mill hubs with 'super hubs'.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 19:47There isn't one, if there was we'd be sending packets for MCs in the SE there instead of via PRDC. Re: Finish times
It'll be bloody annoying if I'm missing my football just to throw in D2D's for the following week, personally I'd sooner start earlier on the following Monday than a waste a Saturday afternoon throwing them in.Perseus wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 15:38You've probably, like many other offices, had time to bed in the 1 person covering 2 walks system (packets and 1C) so have become quite efficient at it. Similar to the other poster's, our DO is already used to delivering 2 duties on a Saturday.

Re: Finish times
PRDC is a basic distribution centre. Yorks get wheeled off the lorries. Yorks with packets will get wheeled over to the relevant bay for the next leg of the journey. For trays they'll be taken off the york they arrive on and go onto a york for the next leg of their journey. In both cases the actual contents don't get touched.Mr Rush wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 21:09PRDC seems to be the only result I could find when searching for information about a second hub in the SE. With the superhubs the packets get sorted there, some to the next MC or RDC in the chain, some will get sorted to direct yorks (to DOs). The direct yorks don't get touched by processing staff at the inward MC, they just get wheel off the lorry and straight over to the relevant bay for the DO.
There is another superhub somewhere, but it's not in the south at all.

Re: Finish times
I agree, it’s annoying miss football etc on a Saturday but we’ve become immune to it since theres been no chance of it for many years now. They are wanting the full office worth of door to doors for the full week ahead thrown in so I doubt coming in early on a Monday will make much difference. Also, I think that it won’t take much to have DM26 fail massively, but going into a new week without the D2D already in will guarantee it.TopperGas wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 21:40It'll be bloody annoying if I'm missing my football just to throw in D2D's for the following week, personally I'd sooner start earlier on the following Monday than a waste a Saturday afternoon throwing them in.Perseus wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026, 15:38You've probably, like many other offices, had time to bed in the 1 person covering 2 walks system (packets and 1C) so have become quite efficient at it. Re: Finish times
Who really cares about D2D's I've not seen one customer or MP complaining as the D2D's haven't arrived on time, in fact the opposite seems the case customers moaning when they do get post it always includes, in their words, the junk mail.

Probably the people that are paying for the service.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
