Paul Birch
The club has learned news that former player Paul Birch is currently in hospital suffering with cancer.
Paul, 45, made over 200 appearances for the club between 1980 and 1991, before joining Wolves.
Since retiring from the game, Paul has been an active and enthusiastic member of the Aston Villa Former Player's Association whose representatives are offering support to Paul and his family during his stay in hospital.
Typically, Paul is determined to fight - and beat - his illness and we are sure all supporters will join the club in wishing him a speedy and full recovery.
(He is also a postman in Erdington office)

Rest in peace Paul. No more pain for you. Sleep like a child now. Opens up old wounds. Cancer is bad, really really bad
