DM26 Part Time Start Times

Glad ive only got 18 months left.RM are clinging on to a system that will more likely fail like everything else they have tried.All very well this working with a fully staffed office but once you get a few sicknesses and holidays then it won’t work and believe me the sick rate in our office is high let alone upcoming resignations.

Probably due to longer hours in the day, so longer breaks, to make everyone finish at the same time.

That sounds correct, finish at the official time would require starting 40 minutes earlier than someone on the same hours but on an "old" contract to account for the new contract person not having a paid break.

Unfortunately my manager didn't inform me this was a thing, before agreeing to FT. Word of warning then to any one considering going FT on the new contract, you may have to start going in at 6.30, as is the case for me.

There would be plenty of old contract workers who would much rather start at 6 30 but I guess if that was to happen you would have to start at 5 50

Royal Mail the only company where Part Time means you get treated like a second class worker by the company and the union, you work 5 days a week doing the same physical work as a full timer sometimes, maybe most the time even harder physical work because you get the worst duties, and you get s**t on by managers every day. Yup being Part-time is a really great gig at Royal Mail, If I was part-time I'd look for another job, in fact if I was full time I'd look for another job as well.

Actually, I kind of miss being PT - not that I was going to turn down FT after waiting eons. Foremost, as I so often tell newbies, because I started earlier when I joined as "AG" (0800) than I do now as a full timer (0817). I believe that is what we call "progress".
