No. You list your preferences 1 to 5, 1 being your first choice. Then the duties go out on seniority.

Thanks . Everything just seems all over the place, open to arguements and with some doing more than others. Such a straightforward job has became crazy. .

My wife has been rm for near 30 years , struggling for past few years with a number of conditions , so dda. for a few years. Had her own duty for a number of years, had a look at the ( maybe) pods last week. Dom says she might not keep her duty due to her duty being put on as part of a third job. Dom has not even looked at the Passports yet . If there is not a duty suitable for her condition/s or if she struggles on another , what happens then ? OH have been vocal about keeping her there but,,, pay off time coming ?

It's lazy DOMming (which is par for the course). He should have identified which of his staff need accommodated due to health or family issues and devised a plan to accommodate them as best he can. Now it is possible that in some offices this will be difficult, and in a few it might genuinely not be possible to accommodate everyone. But in most cases it should be possible to devise a solution.
Unfortunately many managers look at staff with health conditions or family friendly hours as a problem rather than as a person. You can see the same thing with those on Wallington weeks - managers are claiming these will be a big issue and really hard to sort out (whereas the process for keeping them is in fact remarkably clear), hoping, I suspect that some of the walkholders will get discouraged and leave, or will be browbeaten into changing their working patterns or walks.

I get a feeling as they know she is struggling , that this will be it for her , had enough. That is maybe what they want. Shes been under the care of the doctors and hospital for ongoing treatments for a number of years now , so its been a long term condition/s . Forced out ,, maybe

We have DDA duties in my office, they were ringfenced for the current walk holders and are now 50/50 singletons. They have had extra indoor work and extra delivery points added to ensure their outdoor time remains the same as before DM26.

That's exactly how it's meant to work, and there's not going to be many cases where that can't be made to work.
Sadly many DOMs are unwilling to invest the time in doing that (though they're probably in breach of equal opportunities legislation if they do not).

I'm not a rep or anyone with any knowledge whatsoever on the subject but this is what I think.

Are you a duty holder now and how do they work it ?

Or if not presumably if you moved into a pod ie your own duty then they'd have to give you an additional day off mon-sat and cover that day with a reserve, also imho it would be unfair to deny you being able to pick a duty just because you have to be available on a day the duty doesn't operate, perhaps it could be a good thing as it might be easier for them to schedule someone who is a reserve to do the Sundays.

I can't explain our Sunday workers rota because I don't understand it, but when they work a Sunday they have 4 days off so that would be 4 days they are not in a pod

The turnover in staff is so high that no one will lose their job, natural wastage will take care of any overstaffing. Within weeks depots will be short staffed and struggling even more than now.
As for new entrants leaving because of the two tiered workforce, many of them don't stay long enough to even realise they're on a lower rate.
They leave because the depots are chaos, the frames incoherent because they've had random stuff added over the years and half of them are impossible to tie up without an essay of what goes where.
If RM really wanted DM26 to work there would have been a ground up revision with frames reorganised properly. Instead its been a quarter assed project rolled out by morons with no idea how to plan and execute a project properly.
