DM26 - Is it working?

We went live 3 weeks ago. The 50/50 duties clear everyday, even delivery all mail on the light side of the duty, which is supposed to stay in the fitting. The 50/50 duties also take a bit of a round which was removed before DM26 to absorb. They clear this as well, easily in their time. The pods are failing about 2 bundles of mail a day, on each of the walks with mail on that day. This was supposed to be were the 50/50 were going to help originally. But as I said above , RM decided to take a 50/50 round out and absorb it. So it's not a disaster and it may improve as people in the pods get used to what they are doing each day and will get slightly quicker. We have gone to the 2 in 5 shift pattern and that seems to be the main positive.

Why wouldn't the 50/50 clear most days when they are taking 50% less 2c mail?

They are taking the 50% 2nd class that they shouldn't be taking because they don't have enough work to take them to there time just doing 50/50. Plus they are taking a lapsed duty (around 40 minutes each) and still finishing about 20 minutes before their finish time.

Isn't the whole idea to make the work more equitable and clear the office. If the singleton duty is managing to clear their entire duty and do lapsing while the pod doesn't clear the bare minimum 50% of frame plus 1c and tracked on other half then it's failing and the workload needs changing.

Exactly. The new system is supposed to improve the service and clear the work daily. I'm interested to know whether as promised the new way is less or more work than the old way. I mean in terms of physicality and number of miles a day. There should also be extra outdoor time due to the change of hours which should allow for an easier pace?

So basically the manager needs to start managing and get the duties evened out not to mention allowing people to deliver the stuff that isn't due for delivery

There are single duties in ours that currently take 3.5 hours whilst the rest are 5 hours plus.
The singles are going to 50/50, so an easily managed workload. Some singles going to 50/50 will then only take 2 hours - I'm being serious - and have been stomping their feet about the prospect of having to absorb 20 parcels in a nearby area. Whilst the duties that make the most money for RM - the town shared vans - are asked yet again to carry the can and absorb an extra duty between 3 people.
It's an insane way of sharing out the workload, and it's being done on purpose.

That’s exactly how it’s going to play out and you don’t need to be clairvoyant to see it.

When you say people booking do you mean actually working or ghosting?

I'd imagine it's people with a 4pm finish time (common thee days) working OT until 7pm by going 3 hours over.

Yeah I get what you're saying just the term "booking" leaves it open to interpretation.

I know a local office using DM26 are ghosting to get the work out

Long gone at ours as well but appears to be available when they need to be dug out of the mess they have created

I feel like Ian Malcolm when it comes to DM26. Could they have come up with a more convoluted system destined to spiral out of control? I should do the demonstration of the Dragon Curve to the planners. Well, if there were any.

When I read Robin, everything in DM26 is going excellently. Clear frames, nothing going back, happy staff, extra breaks and rainbows and unicorns.

If the shifts are already extended to 8-9 hours are people really doing 12 hour days, 9 on delivery. That's a lot.
