Royal Mail has come under fire for a new change to its delivery notifications.
The company is rolling out updated 'something for you' cards featuring QR codes and a unique nine-digit number to help customers access delivery information more easily.
Customers can scan the QR code with their smartphone or enter the nine-digit code on a computer to find out where their parcel has been left and see a photo of the parcel in a safe location.
However, the move has faced criticism from some members of the public who feel it excludes those without internet access or smartphones.
What have customers said about the new Royal Mail system?
One customer said: "Once again, [they're] excluding those without smart phones."
Another commented: "It can't be simpler than 'packet in shed'."
A third said: "It's all good as long as you have access to a smart phone or a computer to enter the required details.
"Sadly, not everyone is able/capable of using technology."
Royal Mail introduced the new system following a pilot involving 100,000 cards.
The cards now direct users to a Royal Mail tracking page via the QR code, or to the Royal Mail app if installed, once the recipient enters their postcode.
Digital information provided includes the address of where the parcel has been left and a photo of the parcel in a safe location.
Some have raised concerns about the security of the new system, warning that scammers could create counterfeit cards with malicious QR codes.
One customer said: "It'll be easy to create fakes with dodgy QRs leading to scams."
However, others have supported the change.
One customer said: "I used it for the first time today.
"Still room to write a note on a card if it's left with a neighbour or a safe place so no big issue really."
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We've introduced new 'something for you' cards to make deliveries simpler for customers and easier for our posties.
"This follows a successful pilot in which 100,000 were used without issue.
"The cards include an automated telephone number for customers without access to a smartphone and Relay UK, a service helping deaf and speech-impaired people make calls is also available.
"We have strong processes in place to investigate and manage reports of suspected fraud.
"Customers can be reassured that we will never ask for additional information or payment simply to locate and track an item and anyone with concerns should report them to us."
Royal Mail also said its cards include a phone number for those without internet access and that fraud concerns are taken seriously.
The spokesman stressed that no additional information or payment will ever be requested just to locate or track an item.
