Royal Mail has said it is "deeply sorry" after a video shared on social media allegedly showed a postal worker kicking a dog in Aylesbury.

The footage, which has been widely circulated online, is understood to relate to an incident that took place on Saturday, July 11.

Posts uploaded to on Facebook claim the dog, described as an 11-year-old partially blind pet named Ethel, later died after suffering injuries.

The Bucks Free Press has approached the dog's owner for comment.

Responding to the allegations, Royal Mail said it was treating the matter with the utmost seriousness and had launched a full investigation.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "We are deeply sorry for this distressing incident, and we know how upsetting it is for the family.

"We are treating this matter very seriously. We have seen the footage and launched a full investigation to establish the circumstances.

"We have also confirmed to the family that we will cover the veterinary costs."

The postal operator said animal welfare remained a priority and that further action could be taken once its enquiries had concluded.

The spokesperson added: "We take animal welfare and the safety of our people very seriously.

"Dog-related incidents can present a serious risk to postal workers, and we will take any appropriate action once our investigation is complete."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
