A Level Tasks

Can anyone throw any light on what A Level tasks the indoor OPG is expected to perform as it seems the managers are putting more and more tasks onto the indoor OPG leaving them less and less work for them to perform before going home early as usual

Well it depends office by office I guess. A PHG will do some tasks that only a PHG can do but I think because in the past your PHG was almost like a deputy manager in training as such, they often got jobs that were more managerial.

As an example, our office has one manager, one PHG, and it used to be that the PHG would cover the manager's days off alongside his own duties (getting leadership bonus of course). A level tasks here include all specials locker and callers office work, signing in and out keys and log books, signing in and out visitors, dead letters, balancing hours, door to door payments, clearing down the post office counter... that's the main jobs. He refuses to deal with outward missorts, this is the manager's duty.

Interestingly they've been making the PHG prep a round each day in our place, but one call to the security manager to say the specials locker is left unattended for 2 hours each morning and I think that'll change..

DOM Support;
Traffic Office;
Enquiry/Callers' Office;
Major Customer Collection drivers
(to be jointly defined at National level);
Benefits Agency/ Customer Mailroom;
Travelling Post Office;
Leadership roles (formerly PHG "A");
Heavy Goods Vehicle Driving (HGV);
Postbus (PSV);
VCS/MAA;
IMP/MTT;
Advanced TPM;
non-school training.

7 All specialist jobs will have consistent job descriptions, which will identify the specialist capabilities and which will be standard throughout Royal Mail.

I've just email Dave Ward to find out the criteria for Leadership Allowance as I can't find any info anywhere and I reckon I'm getting shafted working in Callers i.e. half early shift allowance and no other payments.

Leadership Allowance is paid to whoever covers the manager when he is away from the office, it was paid to one person per office on a weekly basis but it now appears that they want to stop that and only pay it pro rata when the manager has a meeting etc. So it means in effect that the manager should be the one who locks up the office on a daily basis some chance of that when they are normally sat at home before then especially on a Saturday

Just received a reply from Bob Gibsons secretary, they are going to look into Allowance payments for me. I'm hoping it will be good news.

We have two people on leadership allowance - one opens the office in the morning and supervises the early shift, the other locks up at night (8 pm) and supervises the aftenoon shift and the collections staff. I couldn't imagine a Leadership allowance being paid unless it is for supervisory post.
