Officials say that all the polling cards in the delivery office have now been posted to electors in time for the by election.

The Royal Mail has apologised after the recent heatwave and sickness absences caused a delay in delivering polling cards to a part of Telford where a by election is being held this week.

Officials say that all the polling cards in the delivery office have now been posted to electors in time for the by election in the Hadley Manor ward of Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council on Thursday, July 2.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “All polling cards have now been delivered ahead of the by-election.

“Recent severe weather conditions and higher-than-normal sickness absence affected deliveries to some addresses in Hadley Manor Ward, and we apologise to those affected for any inconvenience caused.”

Telford & Wrekin Council had launched an urgent investigation after being made aware of the issue.

Reminders about the by election were also being hand delivered today.

The council added that apart from taking along a photo ID using a valid form of identification, a poll card is not required to vote.

The be election polling station will be Hadley Community Centre starting at 7am and continuing until 10pm.

Council officials added that postal votes are not affected, so those who have already returned a postal vote do not have to do anything else.
