Humourless Labour MPs have condemned Royal Mail's attempt to poke fun at Keir Starmer's resignation as Prime Minister.

Following Sir Keir's tearful speech on Monday – in which he set out a timetable for his departure – Royal Mail were quick to make light of the latest Westminster drama.

In a post on X, the postal service wrote: 'Moving home? Remember to redirect your mail'.

Royal Mail also posted a picture of a mocked-up mail redirection form with '10 Downing Street, London' as the stated old address.

On top of a picture of No10's famous black door, the firm added the caption: 'For life's unexpected moves'.

But Labour politicians were unhappy with Royal Mail's social media joke, with Jim McMahon branding it 'unnecessary'.

The MP for Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton added it was a 'second class response' from Royal Mail.

Callum Anderson, MP for Buckingham and Bletchley, also replied to Royal Mail's post, writing: 'Really Royal Mail? Unnecessarily poor form.'

Tom Watson, former deputy Labour leader, branded Royal Mail's post as 'appallingly insensitive'.

However, other social media users said Royal Mail's post was 'hilarious' and 'brilliant'.

Following his resignation speech in Downing Street on Monday, Sir Keir skipped giving an update to the House of Commons on last week's G7 summit in France.

Deputy PM David Lammy addressed MPs instead as Sir Keir came to terms with having announced an end to his two-year spell as premier.

On Monday evening, Sir Keir and his wife Victoria hosted Downing Street staff for drinks in the No10 garden, where they thanked those present for their support.

Lady Starmer told them: 'I just wanted to say thank you from me.

'I obviously love Keir and support him as much as I can, but there's only so much I could do.

'And it's you guys who gave that support day in, day out, and I am personally really grateful for that. So, thank you all.'

HuffPost - Royal Mail Delivers A Brutal Postal Dig At Keir Starmer After PM Steps Down

The service appears to have trolling down to the letter.

Royal Mail posted a tweet mocking former Labour leader Keir Starmer’s resignation with a mail‑forwarding joke, which quickly went viral and attracted criticism from Labour MPs for being insensitive.

Royal Mail has stunned social media users after it shared a brutal barb aimed at Keir Starmer over his resignation.

The prime minister announced he was quitting as Labour leader and set out a timetable for his departure from No.10 on Monday morning.

Starmer was effectively forced out by his own MPs, who lost faith in him after the party’s embarassing defeat at the May elections.

The final straw came when his greatest rival, Andy Burnham, won the Makerfield by-election on Thursday.

He is now widely expected to succeed Starmer in No.10 with little opposition from the parliamentary Labour Party.

Royal Mail jumped on the leading news story on Monday afternoon by posting a photo of 10 Downing Street with the caption: “Moving home? Remember to redirect your mail.”

Additional text within the image explained the service is “for life’s unexpected moves” and includes a redirection form with the prime ministerial home address put in it.

The post got more than three million views in less than 24 hours on X.
But members of the Labour Party, including sitting MPs, were quick to accuse Royal Mail of being “insensitive”.
Others were shocked to see the company – which the UK government does still have a major share in – go after Starmer.
