RED weather warning
From the Royal Mail official Service Update site:
Met Office Red Weather Warning – Extreme Heat
The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat across parts of England and Wales starting at 9 am Wednesday, 24 June until 9 pm Thursday, 25 June 2026.
A red warning indicates that temperatures could reach 37–40°C in some areas of the UK.
When red weather warnings are in place, we follow government guidance and will pause all outdoor deliveries and work in the affected areas for the duration of the warning. The safety of our posties and our customers remains our top priority.
The warning is expected to be in place for approximately 36 hours and covers the following areas:
East Midlands (NN)
East of England (AL, CB, CM, CO, E, EN, HP, IG, LU, MK, NN, PE, RM, SG, SS, WD)
London & South East England (BH, BN, BR, CR, CT, DA, E, EC, GU, HA, HP, IG, KT, ME, MK, N, NN, NW, OX, PO, RG, RH, SE, SL, SM, SN, SO, SW, TN, TW, UB, W, WC, WD)
South West England (BA, BH, BS, DT, GL, HR, OX, SN, SP, TA, WR)

Re: RED weather warning
Be prepared for them to try to talk you into taking it as annual leave.
The machine stops.

Re: RED weather warning
No you don't. Firstly you turn up at your duty time. The gaffer does the severe weather risk assessment and then discusses with you what's happening. The chances are that the gaffer will know that deliveries are suspended already. There will be work to do.

When it happened before we had to work until the time it was due to hit 35 degrees and then return to the office. Specials and tracked and anything else if you have time

Luckily I’m on annual leave this week
I daren’t think what I’ll be walking back in to next week though. I’ll just work till my time.

Or unlucky you have to take holiday when it's too hot outside to do anything and those still at work will get sent home early?nightcrawler wrote: ↑Yesterday, 17:48Luckily I’m on annual leave this weekI daren’t think what I’ll be walking back in to next week though. I’ll just work till my time.

Re: RED weather warning
So basically it will be the Saturday DM26 duties, just do the Specials, Tracked and, if time, 1c's before heading back to the DO?

Too hot to work and too hot to enjoy your time off are vastly different things

Re: RED weather warning
It can get hot enough that the cameras in the machines start shutting down through overheating, even with the venting fans they have.A2B wrote: ↑Yesterday, 21:45SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑Yesterday, 21:25It can be just as bad for all of us machine operators with the heat they put out.![]()
