Re: Temperatures
Any sensible company would start early and finish early and any post not delivered just left to the following day, it's not even as if offices are all now mostly clear at the end of the day.

Re: Temperatures
its not healthy. 35 with no shade for 4.5 hours is ridiculous. I will do what i can and have no care if i bring back mail. In fact i may well have a personal pilot of the new delivery methods

Re: Temperatures
If the office all agree to this , you can do it , we have done it quite a bit down the years, the problems come when the piss takers come in late and still want to finish early and it all starts unraveling.

Re: Temperatures
For the record, what is the minimum? I recall it being close to -10C back in December 2009. Up to my knees in snow drift but the walk still cleared, damnit.
The machine stops.

Re: Temperatures
I'd have to have a look. 16 c is ringing a bell but manual work changes the criteria because you move about!

Re: Temperatures
I've seen mentions of 38c or 39c iirc around the London area later in the week.

Re: Temperatures
40 years ago the only places where temperatures would reach this high were deserts and India in the summer. If anyone back then would have suggested manual labour should be completed in those temperatures they would have been scorned.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑22 Jun 2026, 08:47I've seen mentions of 38c or 39c iirc around the London area later in the week.
So what's changed? Have our bodies become more capable in just 40 years. Were we wrong back then or have our attitudes changed?

Re: Temperatures
No there's isn't a legal maximum! Last time it was 35 degrees though we didn't go out. Think it was 4 years ago.Jefferson Starfish wrote: ↑21 Jun 2026, 19:08There is no legal maximum.BenacreNick wrote: ↑21 Jun 2026, 18:31The maximum is 35c. This is the point at which you can return to the office.
It suits RM anyway because they have something to blame then for their horrendous performance.

Re: Temperatures
Wednesday and Thursday. On both them days in the area covered by the Red Weather Warning, RM should 100% be suspending ALL deliveries and collections in that area.

Re: Temperatures
Weather alert has now been upgraded to a RED alert in affected areas, and could hit 40c on Wed/Thurs. Royal Mail don’t give a f**k. It should be tracked and first class only on the affected days. The best our manager is offering us is to start 30 mins earlier - big f****** deal.

Re: Temperatures
I'm stuck on a HCT walk and if it's to hot for me I'm returning to the office. I'm not passing out in the middle of a housing estate just because R.M don't give a s**t about us! My health is more important than Tracked parcels and 1st Class letters.

Re: Temperatures
We are a long way from a red weather warning for heat where I am so I had to take a look at the Met Office wording. Typically for wind/snow/etc if it is Red then it's straight forward do not travel.
Amongst other things, the Met office say: "avoid any exercise between 11am and 3pm".
I would be citing that in my own dynamic risk assessment.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
