A SALISBURY postman took on a 29-mile walk for charity after losing his mum to cancer.

Kevin Penn, 58, from Harnham, took on the challenge on Sunday, May 31, walking from Salisbury to Poole for Cancer Research UK

He set off at 5am and walked through what he described as 'perfect weather' and finished the challenge in 11 hours.

Kevin, who works as a postman in Longhedge, lost his mum to cancer in October 2025 and decided to take on the challenge in her memory.

Carole Penn, Kevin's wife, said: "Everybody we know at the moment has been touched by cancer in one way or another. As well as the loss of Kevin's mum, my mum has just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

"He wanted to do something, so he decided to walk to Poole Hospital, where he said goodbye to his mum.

"He really enjoyed it, and he was glad he did it, but he said it was very exhausting. Some friends and family joined him on parts of the walk, and I was following him in a car.

"As a family, we are all very proud of him and what he's achieved. As a posty, one of his customers even had a plaque made for him to honour what he had done."

Kevin took on the 29-mile challenge in four legs. Starting from Salisbury, he walked to Rockbourne. Then he travelled through the New Forest to Verwood. Thirdly, he arrived in Ferndown. Then from there it was a final trek to Poole.

On his Cancer Research UK giving page, Kevin set a fundraising target of £1,500, but has smashed his target by raising £3,700.
