Has anyone become a magistrate?

Post by mattandbenny »

If so how does it work with royal mail / the DO / your manager etc. Any royal mail policies on it and if time off for court can be made etc.

EDIT* to clarify this different from jury service. It’s a voluntry public service. Similar to jury service but you volunteer 13 days at magistrates court throughout the year.

Magistrates court cases use 3 volunteer magistrates, whereas crown court cases use 12 jurors on jury service.

For Jury service the company can’t refuse it, they have no say. Magistrates service they have more say, however most companies allow time off for it but royal mail are not most companies, knowing them and management they’d try everything to not allow it to happen.

Yes there is a policy covering judicial roles.
