Walking around in the sun is nothing compared to doing a duty which involves more driving than walking when you are in a van with no air con.
That surely should not happen, spending the day driving around in a sauna.

Re: RM welfare of staff !!!
RM is the only major company in the UK that still has any vans old enough to not have air conditioning. It goes to show how poor the management has been, absolutely nothing about the business has evolved past 2010.

Re: RM welfare of staff !!!
We have electric vans that are only a few years old that don't have air con. Must of just chose the cheapest vans they could get.

Re: RM welfare of staff !!!
Having done both I'd take the van option every time as at least you can get out of the sun sat in a van and get some air cooling from driving with the windows open. If you get on a duty with little shade it's a real killer.
Although no idea why, apart from costs saving, none of the latest vans have air con, you wouldn't buy a new car without it.

Same, I do both and I'd also take the van option every time, you'd think there must come a point when the manufacturers don't even offer a version suitable for royal mail "poverty spec couldn't give a f**k about their staff" purchaseTopperGas wrote: ↑31 May 2026, 16:29Having done both I'd take the van option every time as at least you can get out of the sun sat in a van and get some air cooling from driving with the windows open. Re: RM welfare of staff !!!
It’s good to see that some on here understand where I’m coming from - but I guess I’m just not as hard and intelligent as some of the others !!
yes I take my own fcukin water and sun protection out with me as I don’t need my arse wiped for me.
But the simple fact is, things have changed in the last 100 years or so
Most companies do actually care for their staff’s welfare now - but RM DO NOT
Dog attacks - hit them with your letter peg or press your key ring alarm - then get staged for having a day off to get stitches
Toilet breaks - find a bush - but only in your unpaid break time
Wing mirror flapping about - put sellotape on it - the last driver didn’t complain
Sunstroke - don’t worry you can order a new hat in 2 years time
Oversize parcels - sorry we’ve only got 4 sack barrows in an office of 400+ people - can’t you ask the 95 year old your delivering to to help you
Someone’s collapsed and needs the medical room - sorry no one has a key
You can’t see out your van windows as the inside hasn’t been cleaned for months - being your own glass cleaner and cloth in as we only have 250 vans so don’t supply it
Your van is disgusting inside - sorry our 1 hoover has been broken for months / years
Your back doors don’t lock - here’s a cable tie
Someone’s sliced their finger open - sorry we only have 10 first aiders in the office but they can’t find a first aid box
FFS - it’s not about whether you or I know what to do - it’s about the absolute disregard that RM and the managers show / have for their staff - and their customers

??? I was agency for 20 odd monthssmok3y666 wrote: ↑28 May 2026, 17:32You been at RM for 4 1/2 years on agency and contract? They shoulkd have set you on perm after 2 years.Agencyoap wrote: ↑26 May 2026, 20:56Some people have allergies - but a lot don’t !
In the 4 1/2 years I’ve been here as agency and contract, there’s not been 1 piece of information/advice given out for safety/dangers of working in the sun - even the sun protector on the new RM caps only come down to just below your ears so the back of your neck is exposed to the sun all day
But then again in that time we’ve never had a fire drill in our office - in fact I’ve never even heard the alarms tested
Then contract for past 30 odd months
