If you have a contract for your hours they can't force you to change your hours, if they decided to spread it over 5 days, now thats a different story.

We have a lot of three day weeks in our office and it seems to be increasing, but not one of them has a contract that says they only work three days it’s all based on hours .
What makes it really interesting is they are all on legacy contracts and think they are untouchable

We have a number of duties shared between 2 folk doing 3 days each.
Rumour at my DO is that cos of the theoretical increase in saturdays off, they'll do mon-wed or wed-fri and neither will work saturday.

How would they cover the Saturday shift ?
If you sharing a duty three days each someone has to be in on the Saturday or are you not holding a duty

Plus you'd have double staff in every Wednesday?

I get that but with saturday allegedly only being packets and 1C there's "in theory" a lot less to do so can absorb with the staff that are in.

Wednesday being our heaviest day means the extra body means some poor sod can be chucked out on foot doing nearby mail.

Thats the rumour going round the DO...most likely BS

The old ‘someone else will do it’ argument strikes again.
That duty still needs covered on a Saturday so they will at the very least need to take turns

So the people who only have to work half a week for RM will also get the benefit of never working on a Saturday, anything is possible with RM but I find it hard to believe they'd agree to that.

Offices up and down the country are filled with ‘arrangements’ that simply won’t work with any form of USO reform. The whole thing is so cobbled together it’s just going to be thrown at offices in the hope that it saves money somewhere.
