Excess D2Ds

Post by Luckyboy »

Been told today that the Mail Centers are now not taking back the excess D2Ds and we Now have to keep delivering them on our rounds until they've all gone.
Its Bad enough finding time to do them, let alone when we have 6 with singles slots or even 2 houses to 1 slot.
Has anyone else been told this?
Lots of our guys just said F...Off it wont be happening, going to cause some big arguments I think.

Union Bod just smiled and Nodded along🤦
Any idea where the union really stands on this?

his was supposed to have started a few years ago now, RM must finally be enforcing it. Probably either RM don't have an outlet any more to dispose of them or the higher ups have been monitoring the number of returns from each DO.

Why should the union get involved in staff being told to deliver a few extra D2D's, whilst it's a pain doing them it's hardly the end of the world?

We’ve been told the same, not allowed to send them back. Any spares I put in a tray and make sure that the tray is at the bottom of a stack of them, away from my fitting.Fook em. :no no

For years we have been told if there’s any excess under no circumstances do they get returned or hidden in the corner of the delivery office. Let’s say you have 80 excess left over at end of week, manager will just say bang them in random slots next week when you can. With double slots some customers must be getting none and others maybe 2/3 lots of the same stuff, but in the grand scheme of things I suppose who gives a s**t anymore cos they all meet the same fate after delivery……customers recycling bin.

We've had this for about 6 months. We had a grace period, and about 4 Yorks of excess D2Ds were returned to the MC.

Now, any excess we blend into random addresses. It would help if they got the walk counts right (new builds have serious issues with this, all the D2Ds come for that street when only a handful are built)

Refusing to deliver them is like refusing to deliver mail, we are all paid to deliver mail and D2Ds is mail

The bigger issue is people taking the labels off boxes/bundles and throwing them under other people's fittings. Twats

In our office since a couple of weeks ago we now have a zero surplus refurns allowed on d2d, this is causing havoc. I generally have at least half a box left over every week and am now told to double up on them on a few different roads each week.
The machine stops.

From our cwu rep
I just wanted to follow up on the D2D issues from last week. For those who aren’t aware, an instruction was given to everyone that we had to deliver our surplus items rather than hand them back in. It was also instructed that any overall surplus for the office would be distributed ‘fairly’ amongst everyone to deliver.

Although a bulk of the surplus was identified and given back to the appropriate walk, and despite me raising it at the time, this was still followed through with the remaining surplus.

We now have it in writing both from CWU and Royal Mail that this process should not be happening.

Royal Mail have confirmed in writing that any managers using this process to block D2D from returning to the MC or duplicating delivery ‘needs to be stopped immediately’.

Once your frame is fully prepped of D2D any genuine surplus can be counted and returned as per standard operating procedure.

If any D2D haven’t been ‘prepped’ and just thrown out in boxes and bundles, then these cannot be returned and have to be prepped and delivered (unless there are certain circumstances around it).

So as long as all D2Ds are prepped any genuine surplus can be returned.

We should not be delivering surplus (or not even prepped) D2D from our own or other walks. The process hasn’t changed.

Any instances of this happening again needs to be raised to me straight away.
