'Questions on the late delivery of post in Malvern'

I AM prompted by the recent letter praising the delivery of post from Malvern to Scotland the following day.

Indeed I had a similar delivery the following day to Buckinghamshire, albeit with two second-class stamps attached as the envelope was oversized under Post Office regulations.

This raises certain questions on the late delivery of post in Malvern and the surrounding delivery areas.

Firstly, all mail posted locally is collected at the Great Malvern Post Office and transferred en masse to Birmingham where it is sorted for all different parts of the country and abroad.

All WR14 postcode mail is then returned to Great Malvern for sorting again into respective local postal codes.

The question to be asked is is the delay in receiving local deliveries the fault of Birmingham or Malvern?

The two examples above would suggest it is local mail that is being delayed on delivery.

Indeed I feel sorry for our local postmen who seem to spend most of their working day delivering online parcels that fill their vans.

The financial reward for the Post Office is no doubt higher than the ever-increasing postage being imposed for a worsening delivery service, let alone the advertising rubbish that arrives all on the same day.

The desperate need to move the present ‘PO sorting office’ from the centre of Malvern to perhaps the commercial heart of Spring Lane is a story for another day.

Gee, it's a mystery why letter deliveries keep failing nationally.
The machine stops.
