Customer is harrassing me
Hi, I have a customer on my round which i think is being to over friendly towards me and making me not wanting to go in that street anymore.
It started shortly after starting the round about 8wks ago with him coming to his door to take the mail off me and asking my name etc, I thought at the time he was being friendly but over the weeks his comments have got worse and now he even knows what time i will arrive and waits at the door and watches me do the entire street -which is more like a square of houses-I feel like i'm being stalked by this guy, what action should I take. Thankyou for your help in advance.

id speak to your manager ... see if somoene else can do the round and see if they get the same reaction.. or get somoen to do the round with you...
i mean basically its harasment... if its making you feel uncomfortable while your performing your duties..
best not to say anything to the customer directly...

It didn't make me feel uncomfortable at first because I just thought it was general chit chat - I speak to everyone - but this guy doesn't seem all there upstairs to start off with, and even tried to get me to go in and have a 'cuppa' with him yesterday, I know he lives with his elderly mother who is partially sighted as I have spoken to her before, but the funny thing is if she is about he doesn't make an appearance. He has also asked the floater who covers my day off where I am so he could back up what I am saying, I have commented to the guy that i'm married in conversation but this hasn't made a difference, The guy isn't even nice he's a big fat lumpcj_1985 wrote:id speak to your manager ... see if somoene else can do the round and see if they get the same reaction.. or get somoen to do the round with you...

Its not as simple as refusing to deliver to him as I still have houses on either side of him to deliver to and it doesn't stop him watching me doing the entire street, he may be harmless but i'm not willing to take the chance, I am on the verge of quitting, my husband has even said he will come round with me on Saturday but because we deliver early on a Saturday I don't normally see him but I could do that bag last and then I probably would.cj_1985 wrote:seems like your either gonna get a stalker like you have.. or a total B**ch or B****rd like one of my trainers has.
as i said id report it... if it continues surely they would either move you to another walk or refuse to deliver to him... and require him to collect his junk

there should be no problem here really.
Tell your manager you are feeling harrassed by a customer and you wish to be put on another round if you feel so upset.
Your manager should do this to protect his/her staff from this. If he dosen't, say you will go to rep/area rep to sort out.
Nobody should feel harrassed in any way doing their duty.

Re: ghostgirl
I think this is what i'm going to do as I don't want this situation to get out of hand, although because i have only been employed at rm for 6 months and basically got stuck on this round because it is one of the worst in the office I feel my manager will prbably try to get me to do it and at this point i'll probably tell him to stick his job where the sun don't shine, I don't find the round as bad as everyone says it is and it's only this one guy putting a dampener on it.vigilante wrote:there should be no problem here really.

Its your manager duty to protect his and her staff from all sorts of harresment, tell him or her that you feel uncomfy, make sure your union rep is with you. Refuse to do the roubnd on the bases that its upsetting you.
If your manager refused to do this, ask (in front of rep) to write why he would refuse and what action he or she suggest you take, and then take it higher then him

leiwolf I don't think norbet was saying i am being oversensitive I think he was trying to say don't let the managers tell me i'm being oversensitive, I had to read his post twice to fully understand it, anyway, I went in this morning and told manager what was happening and now i'm off the walk so all turned out ok, was worrying for nothing, manager was very understanding about it all. Only thing is I will be back to being spare but better than comprimising my safety.leiwolf wrote:norbet
why is she being oversenitive?
If this is happening to you, what would you do? my friend got offered oral by one of his customers, trouble is it was a guy, would you say he was over sensitive?

Health and Safety isn't just high vis vests and cycle helmets. Management have a legal responsibility to ensure your safety at work, that's why we have so much legislation regarding it. Hats off to your DOM for accepting his responsibility (I don't mean that in a condescending way). Sadly there are still quite a few who would try to brush it off.

I wouldn't let a customer drive you off a walk,I'd have informed the Dom that you feel uneasy-and carried on as normal.
As you said he wasn't the full shilling,he most likely don't get any contact with people, yet alone someone being polite. My girlfrien works as a barmaid, and watching how customers speak to her etc to her male collegues makes me sick.
but report it none the less
